2014 Suspension upgrades

I just bought a 2014 4Runner back in March. One thing that stood out immediately is how pitchy the suspension is. Also it is a little soft for my taste. I'm looking to upgrade it as soon as the warranty runs out. I want to spend less than $1K and don't want to lift it. I'm thinking new coils and shocks, but not sure which way to go.

Right now I'm considering Bilsteins or Old man Emu. Icon seems great but out of my budget.

I've had a lot of experience with both on different vehicles, but am looking for advice from someone who has done this on a late model 4Runner.

Which trim do you have? SR5?

If u dont want any lift at all then I think u are pretty limited to just shocks. You could do front coilovers and adjust them to no lift, but as far as the rear goes, I dont think there are any springs offered that will remain at stock ride height.

In that case, I would be willing to consider a 1.5 lift. I know Old Man Emu has a kit that provides 1.5-3 inches.

I mean I love the truck, it just doesn't handle a payload or quick steering inputs well.

Has anyone experienced what I'm talking about with the current generation? The suspension is like a bad compromise trying to appeal to the soccer moms, but sacrificing performance and utility for people who bought a 4 runner for what it's intended

Do you think shocks would address the pitching of the suspension? I also want to improve it's payload handling. I'm in sales and often have a couple hundred pounds of samples with me at all times

Ive read that thread but dont remember reading about any rear coils that give no lift what so ever. Ill read it again but if I remember correctly any rear coils other then stock give some amount of lift.


Edit.... I guess there is always the option of having custom springs made like that guy did. But I dont know of any off the shelf rear springs for no lift what so ever.
