2014 Tundra has 4R headlights, steering wheel

I love the embossed TUNDRA on the tailgate. Reminds me of my dad's trucks when I was a kid. (My dad is a concrete finisher and owned his own business, so he legitimately uses his trucks and always has. He has 2 tacomas now.)

So, other than the 4Runner getting a new engine, the updates on the '14 Tundra are practically the same as what we saw on the '10 4Runner. Same frame, same mechanicals, etc. The biggest changes were in the styling inside and out. And deletion of burger trays, glass antenna, etc.

Actually, it's not even a true stubby, just a half-shaft — kinda like the overall change in the truck.

I hate the Platinum Edition, it does remind me of a Ridgeline. The other models dont look too bad, will probably grow on me. Don't like TRD decal location though. They need to make the 4.6L on all Tundras, the 5.7L is too much of a hog.

The 5.7 is a stud of an engine. Gotta have that engine for people that just don't care about gas mileage.

Hints of a Honda Ridgeline on steroids at certain angles. OK, but it looks like the design department argued their way to the end result. My first reaction was not "want one of these"

I'm right with you there. If I was buying a pickup I would buy it without question, I just wasn't "wowed" at all.

I know it is, I test drove a Tundra with it and hauled ass. I just don't like how the 4.6 is generally only available on the base Tundra. Like the Chevy 5.3, the 4.6 is a good balance of power and gas mileage.

As a Toyota “fanboy” there are aspects of the truck I do like and others that make me shake my head. The interior for one is well done. The 1794 version is ugly. The platinum model with the black/chrome grill looks a lot better. The TRD Off Road truck looks nice too.

Now with that said, Toyota failed to raise the bar. Yes, the tundra hangs with the Ram in regard to payload and towing. But the domestics are going forward with new powertrains, 8 speed transmissions, and never frames. If Toyota did any research they would have known that regardless of how good the tundra frame may be, it is perceived as being weak. Truck buyers like the fully boxed frame.

Toyota has a high torque 8 speed transmission that would have been a much needed improvement with all RWD tundra applications. Toyota should have added their multi-mode 4WD to compete with RAM and GM.

We can only hope that Toyota follows Ram and modify their powertrains in the next few years.

So, if Toyota would have brought an 8AT but only mated it to the V6 with a 3800lb towing capacity, would everyone have been ok? Because that is the limit on the 23mpg (4WD) and 25mpg (2WD) Rams. A Ram with any towing capacity is still <20mpg.

The 8AT is now available with the Hemi as well as the V6.

I had to supercharge mine 5.7 motor to get some decent power.

I would like to hear more details on the baby Land Cruiser that was mentioned as replacing the Sequoia...

I feel like Toyota could separate Land Cruiser as an independent brand, add some more models and successfully compete on the same level as Land Rover / Range Rover. Only having one model with a starting of $76k limits your market somewhat.
