2014 White paint defects?

Hey everyone, just a semi quick question...

The other day I was wiping some bird poop off of the driver side rear view mirror and noticed that the little tits on the top of the mirror had little black spots. I looked closer and noticed the actual paint is wearing off! The passenger side is still fine at this point. My truck is always parked outside. I have had it clayed and waxed 2 times (never with an orbital buffer always by hand) in the last year of ownership. It gets hand washed every 2 weeks by the same guy I have detail it. I used to do all the detailing on my cars and trucks by myself, but now that I have two lil ones running around I have no time of my own anymore.

Anyone else noticing this issue? Not with the kids but with the paint? lol

my 2014 has rust on the roof under the paint. dealer has yet to get back to me sonce my first service. grill has some issues, looks like someone let paint thinner drip on the paint or something before it cured

I believe Toyota's white paint is a single stage paint, which is why it's hardest to keep glossy. Over time it will get chalky... If you rub on it and your microfiber turns white stop, you're removing paint since there is no separate clear coat added.

The Mercedes Sprinter has the same problem, only much worse ........ And, it is only with the white ones. They have had this problem for years, it is well documented, and white is the most common colour for that truck.

Don't worry about it. Take care of it like you would any other paint and you will be fine.

Good to know and this is also why i had the dealer put on the Simoniz glasscoat with a lifetime warranty.

I think that's the issue. People are taking care of it like any other paint and some are having issues. That said, there are always a few vehicles are "touched up on arrival at the prep centers(oceans are rough), stuff which dealers may not be even aware of. The QC process is not quite as stringent as at the factory.

I wasn't discounting the fact that the OP was having problems with his paint.

I was responding to the poster who was afraid of purchasing one. White is a very popular color, and we haven't seen an epidemic on the forum of people with problems. I don't think we have enough evidence for anyone to be discouraged from purchasing the color.
