Am posting this here because I really, really want to see more 4Runners at this event than FJ Cruisers. As of Feb 1, registration stats showed we are at half (22 FJCs, 11 4Rs).

The official thread with info can be found here:

Here is my story and photo coverage of the 2014 Lone Star Toyota Jamboree:

Here is our 4Runner group shot from the 2014 event:

Hopefully I can pick up a 4WD 3rd gen in time for it! Missed out last year cause I didn't want to be the guy with the 2WD...

I'll be the one with a 2wd. Own it right? :) Still an off-roadn fan. No shame in it. H8ters gonna hate anyway. We're in that 2014 pic!

Haha no same in it indeed. Actually it was more so cause I was a little tight on money and couldn't justify the $140 and not being able to wheel. But I am about 98% sure I'll be there with a 4WD this time around!

They've got passenger admission for 25 bucks. If you can't make the 4wd thing happen, maybe someone will let you ride with them. But GL with gettin a 4x4! Pullin for ya!

If I can get my lift done beforehand I'm planning on making it. I feel it would be a nice time to break in a new suspension. Won't have sliders by that time, will that create an issue? Not sure what to really expect out there.

Many trails can be done without sliders. When you get there, sign up for the guided runs for stock vehicles and new off-roaders. Edited to add: Howdy neighbor!

Are you Mark's wife by chance? Looks like based on your build thread. I am Aaron. Went to highschool with Mark and had that black Tacoma last year at Jambo. Cant wait for it to happen again this year.
I will be rocking a 4 runner this year. 2015 Trail. Just got it 4 days ago.
This is the only pic I have of it so far.

Yeah! I remember! I'll mention it to him, thats awesome you got a 4Runner!

Tengu cant wait to see what you and Kolby have done to your rigs. Maybe we can also ride along a few times too if thats cool?

Ill be excited to make it out. But honestly, are the guided/stock runs even fun? Haha would it be worth biting the bullet for either sliders or skids to make it on some of the other runs? I've seen an OHV park give a list of "recommended mods" for the different classes of their trails but can't find it to reference. Do any of you who has experience in Gilmer have any input to a list like this?

Guided/Stock trail runs - stock -> 3" suspension with no body/under protection

Next class of trail runs - 3" suspension+ with sliders and/or skids and bumpers

Beyond - Monst4rs

Of course, a lot has to do with the driver and experience; just looking for some insight on what to expect going out there. Like most people going out there for the first time, looking to have a good time and test the truck a bit more than just bumpy trail roads and some short climbs....Also don't want to take any damage..

While we're at it, what kind of gear is useful out on these trails versus others and for basecamp. A solid recovery kit, tools, radio, first aid, compressor..... Canopy, chairs, cooler....

A lot in one post but in short, a first timer's guide to getting the most out of Jambo. What to expect, what to bring, what mods yield the most useful, etc.

Cheers guys. Looking forward to seeing yall out there.

jediwebdude Im surprised I havent seen you around. I live, work, and play in the Plano, Frisco, Mckinney area.

I was a first timer last year and had a great time. I did a guided run and it was good to try out some trails that were not to extreme. My truck was far from stock last year and still had fun. This time I will be mostly stock but want to at least have sliders by then.
Basic recovery kit will do. Water, snacks, And cb radio

Also worth mentioning that a lot of drivers/groups are adamant about requiring CB radios to wheel with them. I thought it was a bit pretentious at first but after several wheeling trips and having my CB for well over 6 months, I totally understand.

This will be my second Jambo and can't wait as I'll be better prepared with gear, beer, and more driving experience. Should be another great year!
