2015 TEP brakes suck
More than once I've almost rear ended other cars. There is no initial bite them it's panic stop time. What have you upgraded to with better bite. I know my brakes as I have plenty of road racing experience and braking knowledge from my integral type r and 600whp Evo. And I'm a fan of my hawk hp plus and ferodo ds3000s.
What have you run and where did you buy it from?
My truck needs better pads. I'm not talking about the awful nose dive. It has the worst feel for a 4 piston braking setup and has a terrible lack of effectiveness.

Maybe you should stop driving it like an Evo? I have no complaints about the effectiveness of the brakes. Feel isn't the greatest but it stops damn good.

I'm right there with you I also feel your pain as I also have a 400hp evo and have full stop tec setup and love the bite.

you are expecting a 4Runner to brake like an race prep/modded Evo / integral???
Good luck

Also, you are forgetting about the tires! an AT or even the stocks cannot compare to a performance oriented tire!

Summary, It's not a race car, so don't drive it like one....

If you had a TRDPro, it might be different story :reddance:

My husband drives an EVO X. He constantly complains how slow my truck is and how it sucks in turns and braking. I gently remind him, "honey, it's not a Rally car". :lookout:

Note to OP : When the stop pedal and the go pedal are in a truck or SUV they act different than when they are in a sports type car. Try driving different vehicles with different stop and go pedals it will become very obvious. Stick with it you'll get the hang of this driving thing.

For the past year and a half my wife has driven a 2014 SR5 no less than 70 miles a day - half of it bumper-to-bumper-stop-and-go. She's yet to plow into anyone.

I'm assuming the brake systems on the '14 & '15 models are similar.

She would have screamed bloody murder if the brakes were not doing their job.

I'm curious about what other pads owners have used as well, but as others have said, your driving habits should change. Compared to other SUV's with similar equipment the TEP certainly isn't the best but it also isn't the worst.

From Car & Driver 70-0 mph testing (70 mph = 102 ft/sec):

2011 Explorer Limited V6 AWD - 174 ft
2014 Durango V6 AWD - 175 ft
2016 Sorento V6 AWD - 179 ft
2016 Pilot V6 AWD - 180 ft
2014 4runner Trail V6 4WD - 187 ft
2014 Grand Cherokee V6 4WD - 191 ft
2014 Wrangler Unlimited V6 4WD - 204 ft

Obviously environmental factors and vehicle conditions play a roll in these numbers. They could easily be higher or lower depending on circumstances. If you're concerned about braking and REAL 4WD, be glad you didn't get a heep.

There's obviously a learning curve, but you shouldn't be that close to slamming into the back of other vehicles. Coast if you see a traffic light ahead, get off the accelerator.

My only complaint (besides the nose dive) is that when I'm sitting at a stop light, the brake pedal needs to be SLAMMED or the truck will start inching forward.

Sorry to hear you are having issues, if you want to try new things, start with pads. In my experience my 2011 trail has great brakes for a 6,200 lb truck. You want to see bad brakes, try driving my 7,000 lb 92 land cruiser. In comparison my 4runner feels like an evo.

I don't like the 4Runner brakes, but I've never had issue with them working properly, or stopping like I threw an anchor out the window.

I was really impressed with the braking on my TRD Pro the one time I really needed them, it actually startled me how quickly it stopped. I've mostly driven trucks for the past 15 years though so my expectations are probably different.

Maybe try upgrading to the TRD Pro brakes.
