2015 TRD Pro wheel VS 2015 Trail wheel question

Heres a pic pf my 2014 TEP with TRD Pro Rims and Spider Traxx spacers. Absolutely love it and zero issues!!! :-)

I know this is an older thread but its the closest I could find to my question without stating a new thread.

So here's my question: I have an SR5 and would like to upgrade/change to different factory wheels (TRD Pro or TE 7-Spoke) but want to stick with stock size tires for the time being, especially since the SR5/TE/Pro all run the same tire size.

I get that both the TE and Pro wheels offer a wider track but do so in different ways. From my racing experience, I would think that the wider wheel on the same size tire would offer better overall handling, on-road at least, by taking some of the "bulge" out of the sidewall, stiffening it up a bit. Although my experience is with cars and not trucks so my existing logic may not apply. I don't know what the advantages, if any, would be to sticking to the 17x7, regardless of offset.

Based on the width and offset differences between the TE wheel and the Pro wheel which would be better recommended for daily highway use and occasional off-highway use? Would mostly be light trails out to semi-remote desert and mountain campsites.

neither would provide any real benefit over your current wheel. If you are going for looks get what you like, if you want performance go aftermarket

Don't forget the FN f(x) Pro wheels to get the best of both worlds.

And... best to steer clear of spacers.

I found FN Wheels' website but that wheel doesn't show up. A google image search shows a wheel that appears to be TRD Pro replica though. Is it not FNWheels.com?

You don't need to tell me about spacers. I wouldn't use them unless they were hub-centric and bolted to the existing studs and had their own studs coming out of them. At which point I would probably be looking for a substantially different offset wheel anyway.

Performance is always first priority. I was looking at factory wheels for fitment, serviceability and reliability, and looks but if neither would provide anything more than a wider track, which is what I'm most concerned about, then I'll probably look for a set of used TE 7-Spokes when I'm ready then. Thanks for the input.

TRD PRO wheels with 265/70/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers and Spidertrax wheel spacers. No regrets.

It's a truck. Performance wise you will never notice an inch wider track in normal operation because the increase will be minuscule. The sidewall compression rate difference will be minuscule. Pick what you think is pretty.

Stock Wheel
17 inch x 7.5 inch x 15mm offset

TRD Pro Wheel
17 inch x 7.0 inch x 4 mm offset

FN Wheel
17 inch x 8.0 inch x 0mm offset

There are several wheel calculators to show the difference...yet the TRD Pro wheels stick slightly more outward than stock, but not as much as the stock rim with a 1.25" Spidertrax spacer.

Hey diesel or anyone else that can help, quick question. I currently have the trail 16' with the 7.5" rims and 15mm offset, if I go to the TRD wheel or FN wheel which both have less of an offset than my OEM wheel will I have problems with drive quality or put any unnecessary stress on certain parts of my truck? (I saw the wheel diagram that 1engineer posted and I understand it to a degree but my main concern is putting stress on parts of my truck that I am not aware of.). Thanks

you'll be sucking the wheels further inboard, so no - no additional wear. in fact, you'll improve wear characteristics of those components because less stress. be aware of what tire size you're trying to mount though, being further inboard with your tire increases the chance of rubbing with bigger rubber

Thank you for the info marshal! You solved my problem. I'm most likely sticking with 265/70/17. (Possibly BFG kos2 based on the reviews from this forum)

its a great tire size for mild do anythings. the new 2017 Ram Power Wagon comes with that same size but with the Goodyear duratrac.

No.

They obviously sell this configuration on the TRD Pro and my 4Runner came with TRD Pro wheels...which is now a factory option. You can check out my build thread in my signature if you want the photos.

Yet...the problem with owning a 4Runner and coming to this site if that you'll eventually start adding stuff and monkeying around. Ha. If that's the case, make your wheel/tire choice on where you want to be vs. where you are now.

Hi, I'm also a noob but really have looked everywhere and did the Google search up top and this series of posts seems to be the most helpful but I just want to make sure before I drop a fair amount of cash. So I have a 2016 trail premium with the stock Dunlop tires and T premium stock rims. I think the Ted pro rims I want is Part Number: PTR20-35110-BK. (17 trd pro matte black)? Basically I want the trd pro runner rims and hoping that part number is right. Also, I will not be getting a lift so could I put my Dunlop stock tires right on these pro rims? And if I get a different tire even if beefier tread but same size as the Dunlop will they be ok fit wise and not rub. Thank you in advance for any help with this

Yes and yes.

*Less* of a positive offset is essentially heading *towards* negative offset which would stick out farther, no? Going from 15mm to 4mm would stick outboard 11mm from stock from my understanding, or am I missing something?

Regardless I'm going for wider stance too, anybody know if 285s will start to rub on a 2.5/1.5 lift if you use spacers on TRD pro rims?
