This evening I received a letter/notification from the Auto Airbag Settlement Notice Administrator (www.AutoAirbagSettlement.com). It says that "Current and former owners and lessees of certain Toyota, Lexus, Scion or Pontiac Vibe vehicles with a Takata airbag may be entitled to a payment from a class action settlement." The settlement amounts to $278.5M and I have till Monday, September 25, 2017 to exclude myself and not be legally bound by the Settlement. First physical notification I received relating to this recall. That is good in the sense that my 2016 TE hasn't been recalled...yet.

The settlement is only for those vehicles that actually been recalled. If you have a vehicle that will be recalled in the future, like my 15 SR5P; then you are unable to register for the settlement.

I have a 2015 that comes up clean on the recall link. Are there any 4R out there that aren't affected or is it just a matter of time I'm notified?

I checked mine out, mine actually has the new air bags in it. Mine was produced 11/16, and I think it is pre September that they have the bad air bags.

The settlement is only for those vehicles that actually been recalled. If you have a vehicle that will be recalled in the future, like my 15 SR5P; then you are unable to register for the settlement.

Using the settlement VIN lookup it shows my 2016 SR5 is covered.

Seems reasonable your approach. My TE was made August 2016 so it seems that I still could be part of the recall fam. It is a waiting game for most of us. I don't mind that at all. I'm in the clear for now...

Went back to the settlement site and it says NO California vehicles are listed at this time.

Recall Remedy

I got a notice in the last few weeks stating the remedy was ready for my 2010 4Runner. I live in Houston, TX. I have been driving a rental since January. I got a voicemail today stating that the parts were in and I MUST pick up my vehicle and return my rental tomorrow. Anyone out there have theirs fixed yet?

I had my 2010 TE done at Don McGill a few weeks ago. I didn't have a rental before, but they gave us one for the two days it took them to get the work done. My wife wasn't super impressed with how small the rental Corolla seemed, even compared t her Volvo S60.

Thanks for the reply. Glad to know others are getting theirs fixed as I just hadn't seen much news on the fact that the remedy was now available. They called today and said they were closing early due to the storm so I could keep my rental until next week and they assured me that my 4Runner was safely parked in a lot that will not flood.

We had to be persistent to get an SUV. For 2 days, I could do a Corolla. However, when we went through this in January, we had no idea if it would be weeks, months, or years. At first, they only offered the Toyotas that Enterprise carried (Corolla, Sienna, Tundra), but we eventually convinced them to approve a non-Toyota SUV comparable in size to the 4Runner.

I will likely trade mine in on a newer model that does not have the airbag problem long before I get the notice about mine being ready for servicing.
This whole process reminds me of trying to catch a chicken.

They'll probably announce another recall on a defective part once you get the newer vehicle you traded in for.

I got that in the mail yesterday. It was kinda hard to figure out what it amounted to.

Based on that ^^ it sounds like the compensation "varies" based on some formula.

I got it a couple days ago as well, south Texas area. My airbag deflator should be replaced next month. I believe once they replace it, I can file the information online (from what I've read on this page).

My notice arrived today. I will look at it more carefully when I get home Monday, but my coursory review did not indicate the fix was going to be scheduled anytime soon. I read it as I could opt in or out of the lawsuit against Toyota.
