2019 Current phone mount solutions?

I just purchased this one about a month ago. I mounted it on the left side of the upper center console, between the console and the instrument cluster. Low profile, out of the way of the radio knob and air vents. My Droid Turbo 2 fits either vertically or horizontally , without blocking anything. I'll try to get a pic later.

I have an Ulanzi Phone Tripod Mount. Went with this since I could place it anywhere using either or both 1/4” and 3/8” holes or just good old 3M double sided tape. Although it’s kind of an eyesore when I don’t mount my phone, at least it’s not blocking a vent or distracting like when it’s mounted above the dash.

I went with a RAM Mount system and a mag mount. Best so far.

I've had the X-Grip from Ram Mount and although it's a great option, deployment was slow and needed two hands.

I agree with tomb_rnr, this is a great spot. However I used the Scosche foam tape mount. I previously had this mount on top of that trim piece but I tried the CD slot mount so I took it down. I didn't like the CD mount, it bounced too much, was too far out from the front of the rest of the dash, and it blocked my view of my display mod from OldRed as well as the top of the nav screen and the AC vent. I then went back to the Scosche mount but put it on the side and for me it's the perfect place for both vertical and horizontal display and doesn't block anything. Best is no holes to mount it.

No, I ordered the pro one's which came with black collars that are easily replaced. It also has the finger nuts to tighten in your desired position.

That was one of the ones I was considering from amazon.. and in the same spot you mentioned! So it works well?

I have the same mount and really love the heads up location. I run my radar detector through my phone and the location is perfect. For the ease and price it can’t be beat imo.

Though the mount is very good I find myself fussing with it, it does move around a little in the heat and of course with the magnet.

So I sought out to keep the location and find something better. My search lead me to 67 Designs and their phone clamp. The issue being that they use a ball mount to a arm to another ball mount, to long to work. So I redesigned the end of the arm as an attachment button. This will mount through the same spot with 3M tape and a bolt. So phone mount with ball attachment, no arm, straight to button. Allows more than enough articulation and places it in the same location as above but no movement and works with any phone no metal plate required. I am having the part made this week and will post.

Also directly below is an unused switch location. I bought a USB that fits Toyota and will run my Kenwood stereo USB to it, so a straight short shot up to the phone, no cable dangling around.

Anyway I will post once installed. I had to make 5 parts so I will have 4 left over

If I understand what you're saying you've eliminated one of the ball joints. Phone - ball joint on end of arm - through console - nut

Stronger is good, fewer joints is good, I've been thinking along the same line myself. I'm interested in seeing the parts and what it looks like mounted.

I used to buy ProClips for all my company rigs. They are the very best but a little spendy. You have to buy a base and you have to buy the custom holder which cost about twice the others.

Now that I retired I have been trying to get by with big box store (Target and Walmart) phone holders. I’m currently using a magnet type but hate the fact that it doesn’t tilt to cut the glare and battling the charge cord.

I decided after reading a few of these posts about phone holders that I’m going back to the ProClip. Sometimes its worth buying the best with superior features. I like the base in the vent to the left side of the steering wheel and the holder tilted toward me to cut glare. I also love their holder with the charge cord built in.

Here is my set up. It's a Ram mount with 5" Tough-Track. The other ball is for future devices or a GoPro (but I havent bought anything yet). I had the Scoshe magnet mount also (see side), but didnt really like it; the phone would fall off often when I went off road. Now I just use the magnet to attach the Apple Lightning cable head when I exit the vehicle.

That was one of the ones I was considering from amazon.. and in the same spot you mentioned! So it works well?

Yes, I am very happy with it. Very solid - several of the reviews on Amazon commented negatively about the mounting discs and the adhesive. My first mount came loose, but I believe it was a bad location choice on my part as the surface was not flat enough for full contact. Second one, current location, has sat through 97 degree days the last couple of weeks without loosening at all.

This mount allows for a lot of different positions by having two balls and is very solid. One of my pet peeves with previous mounts was vibration and shaking - this mount does not do that.

My mounting location is exactly like CavPro's pictured above.

how did you mount that rail? I bought one too and since I couldn't figure out how to mount it, it now resides in my junk drawer.

Exactly. I am basically mounting the machined aluminum end of their arm. I even contacted 67 about the idea, they said they were to busy to consider it.

3D printing these which will be strong in the material they are using. I have a quote for machined aluminum but need to order 35 to make the cost reasonable.

Depending on when I get the parts I may not post anything on it until I get back from vacation next week.
