2021 Key fob issue

Battery must have been low (the main battery,not fob battery) drove it about 20minutes and now locks from inside the house and a good distance away like normal ,hasn’t missed a lick since.I had the stereo on for a while while detailing the interior,battery must have gotten low .

I'm not a big fan of the key-less smart fobs, especially since they are giving off that constant signal. Thanks to those who posted the ways to override it.

I wish it didn't re-enable itself once you've pushed a button after it was disabled. Would've been better IMO if you had to reenter the "code" again by holding the lock button and pushing the unlock button twice to turn the fob auto signals back on. That way you could completely disable the fob from sending out signals, and the auto touch feature, yet still use the push buttons on the fob to unlock and lock the doors indefinitely or until you reenter the code...kind of like safe mode.

Do you have push button start?
You have a 2014 and not a 2020 or 2021....
This info came directly from my manual.

My previous 2014 didn't have a push button start or all of the antennas to read/transmit the signal from fob to vehicle and from vehicle to fob.
My previous key fob could transmit a long distance and battery would last years as well.

sorry for the delay------yes I have "push button start" its an LTD...... and the silver fob acts as the remote start activation , by pressing lock 3x and then holding it until the front an rear blinkers flash.

Any resolution? My wife's 2024 has the same issue. For hers, when changing the beep volume or door unlock action from the head unit, it deactivates the remote receiver on the 4runner. My wife's new 4runner with less than 200 miles on it has been at the shop for over a month as they look for a permanent fix. They have replaced the head unit and ECU but no luck.

I have the same issue. 2024 Off Road. I was messing with some of the settings one of them the beep volume and now I can no longer lock/unlock with the KeyFob but when I approach the vehicle I see the puddle light turn on. I also have experienced poor range from the remotes. I have to be standing at the door to unlock the vehicle. When my fob was working I walked about 15ft from the back of the 4Runner and it would not unlock it. My previous vehicle I could be down the street and it would unlock the doors. I would be curious to know what the dealer comes up with.

Had the same issue on my 2021. Would unlock without issue, but wouldnt lock. To the point I started locking the doors manually from inside. Changed battery on both key fobs twice. Ended up being corrosion on the main engine battery. Removed terminals for 15 minutes, cleaned the corrosion that was invisible until the terminals came off the post, and now all works as it should. Hope it helps.
