2021 TRD Pro Production Halted?

From what my dealer told me yesterday it’s simply a matter of having limited production across the board. There aren’t as many Pros as there are other models so with everything being reduced there are just less to go around.

Really? Where do you get your information? I paid $500 less than invoice, not MSRP, invoice for my ‘19 Pro.

$500 below invoice on a pro is a hell of a deal. How much would you charge me to take you car shopping?

I cheated a bit. Caught a young, dumb salesman with my Toyota supplier discount, which doesn’t apply to Pro models or the LC. Though the sales manager also signed off on it, so maybe it was on their lot too long?

So Subaru/Ford I know have stopped production because of the chip shortages. Wouldn't doubt Toyota is in a similar situation.

Exactly: it's about the chip shortages from Taiwan. This is affecting all auto manufacturers.
Production on all vehicles should catch up in the next 3-4 months.

Picked my 2021 TRDP up over the weekend and tried to get the $500 off, but they told me it didn't apply to the Pro? Paid sticker and was honestly just happy to get it ...

While yellowsnow eater loves to trash talk pro owners .....its a free country...I wonder how many pro owners actually pay a premium over sticker. I got mine just under msrp and it I had them dealer trade to get it. It wasn't hard to do...they asked for a 5 or 6k markup, I said no and they said ok. Dealers are all about volume. The pro numbers are minimal, so how much do they really have to gain by trying sell a few units a year above retail. Its not like its a Pontiac aztek or something cool like that.

Around here I had to drive to get one for MSRP, they were all stuck on $5k over MSRP locally for the special color ones.

Hell, I could strip every Pro specific part off, sell them for 200% over value and then trade the car in for $15k over value in 5 years. The value proposition on the Pro is pretty hilarious of you do 5 mins of math on it. Currently I could make several thousand over cost + mods with a trade in...

I just want to know where all the people paying ~$10k over MSRP for used Pro's? I can't believe the prices I'm seeing on Carvana.

Surely with enough patience and searching, it's still possible to get a new one for no more than MSRP.

there are more buyers than there is supply. if everyone found and can buy a pro at msrp then there wouldnt be a mark up would there?

I get that we're just seeing the basic principles of supply and demand in action, but I personally couldn't stomach paying that much over MSRP even if I was in desperate need of a new vehicle.

When the shortages end and supply catches back up with demand, you're left with a vehicle that's worth much less than what you paid for it.

when do you think the shortage will end? historically, 99% of new vehicles sold are worth less the moment it leaves the dealership, what's the difference now? some people need to replace vehicles now. sometimes people purchase a vehicle they want vs what they need. no one needs a trdp - but a lot of people want them. for some people its worth the mark up. for some its worth less. i have a trdp but i would never purchase a new one at todays msrp.

Who knows when the shortage will end? It could just be a couple more months or last through the end of the year. It just feels like we're in a bubble right now with car prices as we are with so many other things right now. Prices like this can't be sustainable for long.

you make it seem like this trdp pricing is new. its not. dealers have been marking up the pros since it first debuted. toyota has bumped up the msrp 25% since 2017 yet it still sells. they can bump up the msrp another few thousand and it will still sell.

I'm not just talking about new pricing. Have used trdp's been going for 20%+ markups over MSRP? To my knowledge that's a new phenomenon.

toyota bumps up msrp every year so it makes older ones keep value. used pricing is market forces adjusting to supply issues. across the board use car prices are up. this was happening since last year. people noticing it more because there is such a low inventory of new cars this year. dealers are also making crazy offers on used and still have room to mark up.

Ugh. i just went through hell for the past two weeks trying to find a ORP (Ooo look at me, im already getting the lingo down) lol.

Finally found one heading to a different city, and dealer scooped it up.

After talking to probably about 10 dealers in Texas, i was told that Toyota were not building anymore ORP's or pros. Now, take it with a grain of salt.. but thats what i was told. lol.

I have been told the same by multiple dealers and was even shown an email by a good friend who is a GM of a larger out-of-state dealer from Toyota directly that said that no orders for Pros would be taken for an indefinite amount of time.

Were they saying there wouldn't be anymore 21's period? Like no new orp's or trdp's until 22's come out?

Prices will continue skyrocketing while the Fed prints money it doesn’t have. When the pumping stops the cards are all coming down and car lots will be full of cars that can’t be moved. The more people freak and overpay the worse it’s going to get, and I’m not thinking we’ll ever recover. Wages were already to low o sustain our economy. It’s going to get a lot, lot worse when the free money dries up and idiots in power have to live with what they’ve created. I’m not political, and I hate the topic in general, but every now and then a politician drowns himself so throughly it even gets my attention. Current Prez will be one term simply by what the economy does. No way will he survive the coming bloodbath. The public is going to freak after another year of this. Three more...well, it’s hard to imagine. But the next Prez will do nothing but make it worse and the public will ask “what now!”. Nothing. You sleep in the bed you made and your country goes down the drain.

The local dealership just received a memo RAV4 production factory is shutdown, potentially the rest of the year. And that Sequoia and Tundra is on pause. Apologies if already mentioned.
