255/85 how much lift?

I only use my 4runner for camping here in baja mostly sand and mild trails
How much lift do i need to fit this tires

My 255/85r16 Km2's fit with only 2in of lift
I had minor rubbing on the rear mudflaps when at full stuff.

Pretty sure you have a typo in there somewhere. Nobody that I'm aware of make a 285/85/whatever size wheel.

Typo it was lol 285/75/16 pretty much a 33" tire.

Not that I want to change your opinion, but if you are using it mostly on sand dunes and mild trail I would put 265/75, i fit km2 in that size with stock suspension and it only rubs when in full turn compression or extreme flex in thr back.
If you want to have a 33" tall tire, would go with 285/75 instead of 255/85, wider is better for sand. Thinner better for road and mud.

Yeah, 285/75r16 will fit in the wheel well and look good at the mall. The OP has indicated he actually uses his truck, which makes your input invalid. 285/75r16 will rub a fair bit when you flex out, even with a 2" lift, and 255/85r16s are slightly bigger than 285/75s even. No way in hell will he fit 255/85s at stock height.

OP, if you have to have 255/85s I'd go to three inches. And even then you might need to trim fender or shim bumpstops or both. Pate has good advice though, the wider tire will give you better flotation. And 265s will give you plenty of clearance if you're not rock crawling. I'm not trying to get into a debate / pick a fight, but lift doesn't change tire fit. Lemme rephrase - "suspension lift" doesn't change tire fit.

You will rub just the same when off pavement and articulating the suspension. Stuffed points and scrub points remain the same. Hammering, trimming, and body lifts make more room.

I know of a guy that ran 36's on stock suspension. and they fit. Obviously there was rubbing but still they fit and he was able to wheel.
And I use my truck too. I have 4 inches of suspension lift as of now I recommend lifting it regardless.

255's are pretty much optimal on your stock rims, 255/85s are my go-to tire but I don't think I personally would run it on an 8 inch aftermarket rim that wasn't steel.

Me too. Had to trim the front plastic bumper valance to eliminate some rubbing when turned and stuffed.

So many options .... I was thinking about the 255/85 because it looks a little taller i dont know how much tall is it than a 265/75 . i am still debating on this i also dont want to spend a lot of money making a tire fit but i also want a 2 or 3 inch lift . the good thing is i still have 2 more months to decide

I am running 35s on my runner and there is no way in hell that they would have fit with the stock suspension. I ran 285s before the SAS. They rubbed the upper control arm with out spacers, rubbed the front bumper just turning, rubbed the inner fender when tucked. 3" lift still rubbed bumper at flex and turn and still rubbed inner fender pinch weld and flex and turn.

If your buddy has 36s on his stock suspension, I don't see how he can even turn.

That would be awesome. I've seen them with 35s but they had a3 inch lift and other mods to make it work. Did he have a body lift or coil spacers?
