255 or 275 help me decide

If you buy the right WIDE, LOW offset wheels, you can rock 265’s and they won’t look too small. My 265’s look great when they’re dirty, but when they’re cleaned and shined they look a tad too small (I don’t shine them anymore)

IF this weren’t my wife’s DD/our family trip hauler I would have gone 275’s or 285’s. c load 265’s are 10lbs lighter than 275’s

Serious considering this route next time. the 34s are listed at 33.5" tall, which means they are around 32.5" tall when mounted. Plus someone on here has mentioned they don't rub due to their narrow width and they are LIGHTER than the E-rated 255/275/285s (according to BFG).

The (maybe) good thing about the duratrac 255/75s is that they are p-rated. So they should be about the same weight as the stock tires, give you about stock mileage and do better offroad. Win all around, as long as the sidewalls hold up.

Might be some misconception here. an e-rated 255/80 probably isn't going to save you gas mileage. The coopers weigh the same if not more than the comparable e-rated 275/70 BFGs.

If you go with a C or p-rated 255/75, then yes, I agree. I run the c-rated Coopers mainly for the gas mileage.

I think rolling resistance reduces MPG more than weight of wheel tire combo. Hence, people who sport pizza cutters in the same height and weight tend to still get better mileage. Without the mpg benefit of pizza cutters, most people would rather take the hit for the better looks of beefier tires.

I went with 255/75/17 C rated KO2s.

My justification is that they achieve the 32 inches while still getting the gas mileage I desire for my dd. I get currently 18mpg with a lift and Gobi rack. 18.5 on long trips. I believe this is due to having a lighter aftermarket wheel, my driving habits, and these tires.

The 255/75 ko2s are 10lbs lighter than the st Maxx at 255/80 and 275/70 ko2s. I would also only caution you that if you go on a lot of road trips, which I do, 255/80 and 275/70 are often tire size they do not keep in stock.

E loaded tires were overboard for me since I only go offroading once a month in mild trails and fire roads to a fishing and camping spot. Depending on your use, it may warrant those tires.

By the way, I get rubbing with 255/75 and -10 offset. I removed the front mud flaps and will be trimming the front liner. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Attached is a picture of the 255s with a lift.

That's my concern. I like to have more aggressive tires and the 255s seem be where I'm leaning. I do do a significant of DD/highway driving and part of me feels I should just stick with the stock Duelers for the duration of my ownership...

those are LOUD though. Guy I follow on YT put those on his TRD ORP, and although was able to do Hell's Revenge on an otherwise stock truck, you could hear them clearly in all his videos.

His wife made him take them off the truck this week, just FYI.

I can second that. The bfg mud terrain are really loud. Might be me but I think they are even louder on a 4runner than a Jeep. Could also be because the Jeep is so loud to begin with that it drowns out any other added noise

I'm stuck with the same decision as well. I do go off-road a good amount. I want a tire that can still tuck up inside the wheel wells without any issue of rubbing. I have a .85" spacer up front. I am looking for a taller tire to fit the wheel wells better and look better. But overall, I want the tires to fit and perform. I'm not sure I can get that with 275/70's. 255/75's may be it.

Been running 255/75/17 KM2's for about 10k miles now with 1.25" spidertrax, Bilsteins set at 2.5 up front and OME 895 2" coils in the rear. Had a tiny bit of rubbing up front (fixed with a heat gun and some pushing).

I've done quite a bit of wheeling with them, everything from rocky trails in Colorado to muddy backroads in Arkansas. I will say they perform great on and offroad. I seem to be averaging about 17.5 MPG, but thats probably not acurate. I can definitely tell the difference in sound after 10k miles, they have gotten a lot louder, which is to be expected with any MT.

I'll probably end up going the 255/80 route after this set just to get that extra inch of height, and most likely switch to the ST MAXX.

Here is a shot pre putting the 895s in the rear with just a 1.5" spacer.

You guys think ill have more issure rubbing with the 275 70 17 or 255 70 17. Ive got a set of the stelath customs ray10s coming on tuesday and a 2.5" front 1" back lift.

what is the offset on the wheels? if it's the same as stock you probably won't have an issue with either

I run a SCS SR8 with Falken AT3Ws (over sized 265/70R17). They are pretty much a true 32" tire.

They rubbed LIKE crazy before I took off my mud flaps, trimmed the bumper and heat gunned my fenders. I think you may have meant 255/75R17; that'll almost certainly rub less I think since the width seems to get you in more trouble than height.

Acually I meant the 255/80/17 bit have been thinking about the 255/75/17 also in the bfg c rating since it would be a lot less weight. I don’t know for sure yet

I just got 275/70r17's installed on my new rims today. I do rub a lot when I backup and turn the wheel. Hopefully this will be fixed when I get my leveling kit/lift installed. Hope this helps!
