265/65/17 to 265/70/17 = trouble?

Hey I have a 2008 4runner Sport that came stock w/ 265/65/17 tires.
I'd like to upgrade to BFG All Terrains in 265/70/17 but someone has warned me that a tire jump in size, even this small of a difference, can have adverse effects on my driveline particularly the automatic transmission.
I'm also concerned that this could screw w/ my traction control?

I don't know anything about vehicles this modern, I have built a solid-axle swapped one-ton Bronco but that was a '90 and the axle were regeared to accommodate 37" tires.

As long as you change all 4, you should not have any issues with your driveline.

you probably wouldnt have any issues even if you changed just two, those two sizes are almost the same

There's a 1" diameter difference between the two sizes. To me that's not "almost" the same. Course that's just me.

yeah exactly they are pretty close. air pressure could even account for that much difference. Who ever told you changing tire sizes would screw up all that stuff is tripping! I could understand 40" boggers having adverse effects on your trans because that is a lot of tire to move.

And i dont understand you switching between those two listed sizes. Seriously the difference is virtually unnoticeable. Unless your bfgs are not made in the first size.

Actually, it's true, but it really depends on how much taller (not wider) the new tire is compared to the stock size. Everything > engine ECM, trans ECM, ABS ECM, traction system ECM, etc is programmed to work with the stock tire size.
Taller (or shorter) tires throws the calibration off, which can affect all the systems operation.
Power and mpg will suffer too.

But I personally wouldn't worry about tires only 1" taller, FWIW.

You'll be fine! 265/70-17 and 255/75-17 are very popular sizes on the Gen4 Runners.

By the way, buy five so that your spare is the same size and use the spare in your tire rotation.
