You mentioned breaking rear axle. Either way we don't break rear axles often. So don't worry about that since that's one of the reasons you don't run hard trails.

I've been playin with 8" Toyota rear ends for 15 years now, so I know they're not easily broken. Sean was talking about breaking on the trail- specifically in 2wd. So, you tell me- what's something that will break in 2wd- but not in 4wd- before a rear shaft?
My current project, BTW.

It's not my truck, but I'm building it.

I would have loved to have been able to link it- and get it a couple inches lower- but that's a substantial budget increase. You like the rear bumper? [emoji12]
I was pretty stoked how the exhaust came out. Used all mandrel bends. I built the crossover flip when I swapped the 3.4 into my 2nd gen 4R, but this was my first full exhaust.

Ya, I'm afraid I may need to make a new crossover on the 3.4L in my 3rd gen to clear the pass drop FJ80 front end and dual Marlins. Most people say there's room....I hope so.

It was super easy, 'cause I did it while the engine was on a stand- before I dropped it in the rig. It would be a hassle to build if you were trying to piece it together while the engine is installed. Would be nice if it worked without building a new Juan.

Ya, I was going to say, one can stack rocks to make it through those trails....it just sucks out here, even when it's relatively cool in the 70º range since the sun is beating down on you while you're unstacking all the rocks.

Here's a very old (like probably 10 years old) "revamped" trail rating system for AZ trails.....the scale has shifted by at least half a level since the sport has progressed so much in the last decade. When Chris wrote it though....it greatly improved upon the old 1-4 or 4.5 system and is still relevant as a general guide.

Here is our rating system. Its pretty good one IMO. Its a 1-10 system and rates easiest to hardest. If I keep it 7 and under I dont have to worry about much issues. I believe Broken Arrow is a 4/6 making it pretty easy going. I have done an 8 and many 7's with no damage to quarter panels. Just some rear bumper drag, but can live with that.

Yeah, any trail that says on the front sign. 35's, front/rear lockers needed and you WILL get body damage I avoid. HAHA. They are all rated 9/10 from top to bottom. Mostly buggies run these trails.

I'm confused then....Topless is only rated a 7 and Calamity Canyon/Scratch and Dent is like a 6.

I've never been to Montrose (to wheel)...but have really good friends that have in full bodied (though pretty modified) rigs. From all accounts, you're going to need sliders at a minimum in a 3rd Gen to run even their 6 rated trails.

Those trail names dont show up on Traildamage.com. They must have there own name for those trails on that link. All I know is 8+ on traildamage Im not able to run without sliders. 7's and under I can usually tackle pretty well.

Ive only seen the one on trail damage. Since those Montrose trails did not show up on traildamage I was not able to compare ratings. Its just the most up to date popular site used here to keep track of trails so thats what most people use here. Its pretty amazing how many trails they have documented on www.traildamage.com.

Ya, I was poking around there....found Patriot, Liberty and Independence as well as some older, closed trails like Minesweeper (but not Rattler for some reason; it's in the same area near Salida. Thought Sidewinder might be it...but that's north of I-70). Carnage Canyon in BV, 21 Road in GJ, and Blanca Peak are listed as well.

Anyway....ya, my buddies went up to Montrose (McPherson Offroad invited them up) right after Die Tryin' and the rest were opened.....early 2000's I wanna say, but it may have been mid.

Anyway, all that digging around on TD.com makes me want to plan a trip up there. Gotta get my Runner done first though. Blanca and the Indy system in Penrose are high on my list.....but I'm not sure the 4Runner is going to be capable enough for Indy and Patriot.....probably just Liberty. Blanca just looks really, really pretty...with enough challenge to make it worth the drive.
