2nd gen aftermarket parts compatibility question

This may be a dumb question and if so just say so and I'll move on.

I have a 97 runner that I'm hoping to lift and play with eventually.

My question is, I've seen a couple of second gen runners with blown/no motors for sale dirt cheap that had a lot of aftermarket parts (bumpers, lift, etc). Would the bumpers, lift and the cosmetic parts fit my 97 if I was to run up on a killer deal on one of these? At least with a little fab on say a bumper. I know wheels and what not should fit as long as they are 6 lug.

I can say for certain that the front lift from a 2nd gen will not work, as the earlier trucks use a torsion bar type suspension, versus our coil overs. I'm not sure about the rear lift, but I suspect it wouldn't fit. Perhaps someone else will have feedback there...

The 2nd gens also came with 15" wheels versus the 16s which are quite common on the 3rd gens. Early 15" wheels tend to not fit over the newer trucks front calipers. My truck has 15" wheels and I can't mount older style (2nd gen) 15s without running a 1/4 inch spacer and installing longer hub studs. I had that problem recently but decided it wasn't worth the effort.

I have no personal experience with mounting older bumpers, but I've seen it on this forum before so retrofitting can be done, as you said.

Second and third gen 4Runners don't have any common parts that I know of. They're completely different trucks.

False, I had to make two cuts, one on each side of the mounting brackets to put this second gen bumper on my 3rdgen

a simple bumper like that sure, the rear of the two are close, but try that with the front... not gonna happen without a lot of work, may as well build your own. for the most part the two so different that parts will not change over at all. the rear third member and rear sway-bar endlinks are the only think that i can think of that are direct swaps. (the end links on a 2nd gen are longer and work better with a lifted 3rd gen FYI)

i have a 94 and a 97 trust me when i say they are completely different and not worth having for "spare parts" or accessories.
