2nd gen remote start

Its getting cold here and I park outside. I've been planning to have an alarm and remote start installed once I get my power door lock working. (There's a faulty switch that indicates wether the door is locked or unlocked in the drivers door). This morning I went out and started it so it would warm up enough to scrape the windows, but of course I can't use a second key and lock it while the key is in the ignition.

Anyway, if I have a new alarm and remote start system installed, is there anything I need to be aware of, or will they all pretty much work?

For our older 4runners, pretty much any remote start system will work. Unless you plan on installing it yourself you will need to call around and see who will do the work. If you have a manual transmission there are a lot of installers who won't do a remote start on a manual tranny vehicle due to liabilities. They are pretty easy to install, if you can read a simple wiring diagram then you shouldn't have any issues installing one on your own.

Thanks. I plan on having it installed but its an automatic in any case. The 4runner has the factory alarm but I'm thinking of having that upgraded as well.
