2wd treads?

After reading all the threads and seeing the 4x4s, I felt like I am the only 2wd. My 4Runner is more leveled now that I added the bilsteins front and rear.
I'm not sure which road I should take. I like the setup that most 4X4 guys are doing to get the 3'' lift but, if I go with the spindle lift then I can get a little bit taller tire under it. I very rarely take mine off road unless its to and from hunting spots. 4wd is not required for any of the ''off roading'' that I do. I really think I'm going to do the spindles with 5100's all around and all pro cprings for the rear. It sure does seem lonely out here for us 2wd guys. LOL
Do you have any pics of how it turned out?

That looks good man. And don't worry you are not the only 2wd on here. But this place is a wealth of knowledge for any 4Runner owner, 2wd or 4wd. And welcome!

Looks great man! How much rubbing did you run into with that setup? Looking at yours, I dont think I need to go with the full 6'' from rough country now. Yours has the stance that I'm looking for. And did you need the wheel spacers or did the spindles push the wheels out far enough. Thanks for the reply man.

Thanks! I only had some minor rubbing... had to push fender liners forward, remove front mudflaps, and trim the front bumper just a little bit. No wheel spacers; my wheels have a 4.75 backspace and the spindles push each wheel out an additional .75"

Newbie here also and that's just my situation! I really want a 4Runner.
85% of my use would be for work, soccer dad and local family driving.
15% will be for me towing a bass boat and going fishing! (Getting 16-18' aluminum bass boat.. as light as possible..) Boat, trailer and gear would probably be no more than 3,000 lbs. It would mostly be local towing 5-15 miles. mostly highway and clean dry ramps. I will do my best do avoid going out on bad weather days.
Dilemma -
I have the opportunity to purchase my neighbors 2005 4R sport 2WD @ 141k miles for only $7,000. Probably perfect for regular use and NO TOWING!
OR
BUY 2012/2013 4R 4WD @ 50k miles for around $27,000. I realize pros and cons of 4x4.. "Good to have when needed"
I really don't want monthly payments and can pay cash for my neighbors 4R.
So - What do I buy?

So what makes you think a 2-wheel drive is not capable of towing?

Don't think I said that or intended to sound like that. I am aware the 4x2 and 4x4 towing capacity is the same @ 5,000 lbs (4th gen).
I guess bottom line question is do 2WD have that much trouble pulling boats out of ramps when conditions are not good?
I think that's what I'm trying to wrap my hands around. Yes I agree, 4x4 is great to have and super nice when needed. But how often is "when needed?"

I have only pulled a boat out of the water once. I will say that i wish i would have done it it 4 wheel drive instead of 2. I got my clutch very hot when i pulled my step brothers boat out of the lake for him. Might be just because im new at that sort of thing, but i would figure a 2wd would have more issues than a 4wd

So for a 2WD towing say, 3000 lbs boat out of a dry ramp.. would still have trouble? hmm. And for this reason I'm hesitant. Again I probably won't be fishing/towing more than 15 times a year. So for little "use" of the 4x4.. I'm wondering if it's worth the extra to spend on.

My thought would be this. I'd say it's like a condom or a gun. Better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. Chances are you will probably be fine. Im a new guy when it comes to pulling boats out so it could have just been me being nervous and not wanting my baby to go swimming attached to my step brothers boat. It did it and did it good. I just heated the clutch up a lot and for my future reference iff i have to do it again im going to use 4wd. And that way you also have another set of drive tires on dry pavement.
