So cool... I love that you focus on the 2wd's a bit. A well equipped 2wd w/ a good driver can do amazing things with ease. Clearance, good limited-slip (locker) and the right tires are, perhaps, more important than 4wd. Nothing illustrates that like a 2wd in a pic where a 2wd "shouldn't be".


Shuly, I don't even know you but I know you're a pretty good guy. Taking the time and going through the hassle of the ramp so your loyal companion can be with you to enjoy the adventure is awesome! :bigok:

haha....the ramp is because of the lab. The black one has had TPLO surguries on both of his knees. He has plates and 7 screws in each rear leg now. Bionic dog haha.... He is much better now and plays like his old self again. Also the dogs are older 10 & 12 years so it makes it easier on them ... especially with the lift

That was the point of the 2wd trip....to be doable with a stock 2wd 4runner. With lift and A/T tires it should be fairly straightforward. There are just a couple of places where a spotter would be helpful, depending on the driver skill. Since Shawn's Xterra was two weeks old and had no skids nor A/T tires...we spotted. I didn't want to cause trail damage to a brand new truck :lookout:

The only challenging parts of the Sat run would be at Jack Henry. A couple of small obstacles where wheel placement and slow driving was needed. There was also a spot where it is not too tight but full size vehicles need to go slow. But it is definitely passable in either direction.

For the Sun run you could easily make it to Badger Flats from the South end. Running backwards from the North end you could easily make it to Harkless or Papoose flats. If running backwards there is a steep 1mi uphill ascent that you might have difficulty with. Lower tire pressure should get you up the hill. So slow in that spot...lots of twists and trees.

The most difficult part of the trail would be if you run the trail the direction we did and you choose to go through Badger to Papoose/Harkless. You may need to stack rocks w/o 4wd. Also if you run this portion you may want to consider removing your running boards if you haven't already. It will help with some clearance issues.

The only way to know if you can handle the trail is to try it Take someone else with you. Preferably someone with a 4wd and tow straps just in case. If it gets too "scary" you can always turn back.

I just got back from a fishing trip this weekend...had a great trip caught limits both days. Even caught two big Alpers trout!!! Just had to share haha.....yes gps coordinates....apparently you didn't read the very first post of this thread?

I took the time to cleanup and export the tracked coordinates and dump them into a file for Google Earth. The links to the files are right there.

Come on out to CA...Tons of trails to run. Better hurry though the &#%*$ (I want to say so much there) are making so much stuff wilderness and closing trails left and right. We have lost over 50% of our trails in the past 20 years.

I'm sure there are lots of us who would be willing to take you on our favorite runs!

Awesome trip! I love taking my 2WD out to a nearby farm with plenty of hilly trails... Lots of fun getting there, lots of fun there, and lots of fun when we're done! (Great Fishing, Hiking, and Eating!)

Well technically that is 3 weekends in a row....not that I'm counting. This weekend I'll be in Death Valley....The first full week in June I'll be in/at Lassen, Lava Beds, Burney, Crater Lake, Eureka...not sure exactly where else yet. In July I may go to Colorado for a week...that trip isn't definite yet.

I have to do these trips when I get a chance right? After all if I end up formally laid off I won't be able to afford it. You should definitely bring her along on the next run. It will be a fun trip. I haven't figured out what it will be yet...but it will be a fun trip!
