I'll be honest, I personally don't believe you should bother to buy a 2WD Truck/SUV (defined as a Body on Frame vehicle and not a shit CUV) if you plan on off-roading... it just seems pointless to me. It could be because I see way too many Poser Road Queens done up like Off-Road Monster Trucks with nary a spec of dirt on them, or too many Poser 2WD guys get themselves stuck, or even that we sell far more PreRunners (some of which get turned into pointlessly lifted Road-Queens) than we do 4WD Tacomas at the dealership I work at.
But really to me it just comes down to practicality, if I am gonna use the truck off-road, I might as well buy the right equipment for the job and not short change myself.
That being said, guys like gaterose make me doubt the limitations off 2WD Trucks/SUVs with their builds and their ability to manage the potential hindrance 2WD imposes. But again it just comes down to practicality for me, I personally would rather have the 4WD ready to go if and when I need it rather than have to work around not having it.
