Hi I'm brand new to the forum in search of some wisdom from any 3.0 gurus out there. I have one heck of a brain bending issue right now.
1994 4runner 3.0 auto trans. 216k
SYMPTOMS - Runs fine most of the time but randomly the idle will drop and become "Lopey" and the truck will die while driving or when i come to a stop and this happens almost exclusively going down a long hill. After it dies it will not restart for long periods of time just cranks endlessly. Also when this begins to happen the automatic transmission won't shift right and goes into "neutral" between 2nd and 3rd gears. I have determined there to be a fuel delivery issue likely at the injectors because I have good fuel pressure at the fuel rail (43 PSI) yet a very lean condition and dry spark plugs after cranking. When this issue is not randomly occurring, the truck runs great and the tranny shifts perfectly.
QUESTION - How on Earth could the transmission be tied in to a fuel delivery problem? Does the O2 sensor help determine shift points on this truck? If so maybe the lean condition is throwing it off?
