3.4 swap candidate question

While I know there are threads covering the actual swaps, I was wondering how specific I have to be when looking for the candidate engine: do I need to get one from a 4x4; do I need to get one from a manual tranny since mine is a manual; does the ECU have to match the engine, or can those just match how you're going to set it up? Since the older transmissions weren't computer-controlled, will it matter if the ECU was from a computer-controlled model? Just collecting info right now, although I have noticed a cheap 3.4 for sale that got me curious.

I would find a complete vehicle with a manual tranny. They are more common in the 2wd taco as and 1st gen tundras. I say that because the auto tranny wiring harness is integrated into the engine wiring harness and complicates the swap a little bit. Plus if you can find a manual tranny vehicle, you have a good tranny to use too.

If you pull a 5-speed from a 2wd taco, can you easily bolt the the transfer case up to it?

Not sure if you can pull the tail housing and install a transfer case. My point behind that one was that the wiring harness was a simple install because it doesn't have anything on it for an auto tranny so it makes the wiring easier.

lots of info. on yotatech , in fact there is a specific forum for the 3.4 swaps ..
+ we're building headers for the swap :)
