3 evz swap to a 22r

So my 3 evz died and I'm looking to put a 22r into it with a weber carb. Basically removes all need for emitions, vacuum hoses, and electronics. I know I will need to relocate the engine mounts but is everything else pretty much straight forward bolt on? Like would the 5 speed manual trans fit along with the bell housing or would I need to do mods to that? Any sujestions or recomendations of what I should do while the engine is already out.

Thanks

I bought an 84 that went the opposite, from a 22R to a 3VZE. I didn't do it myself. I just bought it that way. I know the engine mounts were changed, but I think the cross memeber for the tranny/transfercase was also relocated since I see some welds that look not factory there.

But I don't know for 100%. I am swinging by the the shop that did the swap soon. I will ask to learn about this setup.

This is a good list of what was found with which engine, transmission and transfercase.

Toyota Pickup and 4Runner Drivetrain Specifications

haha don't exactly understand what those specs imply as far as if it works. Also do you guys think a 22r is strong enough for 35s that I have on it right now?

I use that chart to identify which engine connects to which transmission connects to which transfercase.

Such that 22R from 84-87 had the transmissions G52 or G54 and gear drive RF1A transfercase. And it would have one of these RP gears 3.90, 4.10, 4.30, 4.38. 4.38s only available in 1980, 3.90s only available in 1981, 8" drums. so you're probably looking at 4.10 or 4.30.

Follow that for all other engine/tranny/transfer combination.

For the larger tires...what size? I don't want to come off as an expert. Just know what I read and researched around here and elsewhere. You can get your 22R to turn large tires no problem. You will have power loss when trying to drive faster or when you get to a hill. This can be remidied by changing the RP gears to a 4.56 or 4.88 many people say the 4.88 ratio is the better match.

If being used offroad, and you put it into low gear you should be fine. Just not so good at highway speeds. Driven a friends 22RE with 36" tires and it turns them fine with his 4.30 gear ratio.

Hope all my blablabla help somehow.

The 22r will not bolt up to the 3 VZEs R150F 5 speed. You can get a factory bell housing off the 22ret, which used a F151f, that will mate to the R150F (or use the r151, it has a lower 1st gear, which is better for off road). Other than that, youll have to find a tranny and transfer for a 22r or re.

As far as gearing....22r on 35s Id go at least 4.88, but 5.29 will be better.

hyde is correct about the trans, but the R151F trans will be very hard to locate.
For 35" tires 5.29's would be a good choice.

I just put a 94 runner body on my 92 standard cab frame. Runner was a v6 auto. My truck was a 22re 5spd. The wiring harness was plug and play. So if you wanted to keep fuel injection it's easy. Just find a 22re close to the same year as yours. But like they said trans and motor mounts would need to be modified.

I run 37's with 5.29 gears no problem on a 4500lb runner
