3" Old Man Emu Suspension Kit

When you start lifting your truck (suspension, spacers) it changes the geometry of an IFS suspension and you loose caster in your alignment. Meaning your front tires are sitting like this \ / , witch leads to major wearing of the tires and very squirrely at high speed. The factory UCA's just don't have enough adjustment. Most after market UCA's correct all these problems. The Light Racing UCA's, have an extra + or - 5 degrees of Caster and Camber. If you have over 3" in the front I highly recommend aftermarket UCA's, you will regain your factory alignment specs and handling. Sorry for grammer errors, I'm on my Blackberry.

Okay thanks, So if i choose a OME full suspension kit you think this wont be an issue?

No It Wont Be an Issue at all thats the Beauty of the OME Kit ..Put it on Get an Alignment your done......No Need for diff drop or anything else.

Got the OME installed yesterday so I can't say a lot. The ride a bit stiffer, not so bad. I do feel a bit more body lean at turns and over bumps. Maybe because the center of the gravity is higher? Or maybe my driving, I like to take the turns fast, now I have to cut that back. Darn. With the front top plate spacers there's only a 1/4" difference between front and rear.
My rear raised about 4". It should settle I heard. The instalation went well, nothing broke, nothing leaks. The headlight had to be adjusted, it was a bit high. The Yakima fairing is a bit noisier. I did not notice much change in MPG in the city. So far that's all.

Alright, I'm currently in the process of installing the OME lift. I've done several searches on this forum and others, but I haven't been able to find a writeup to use as reference. Does anyone have any info?

Despite being someone mechanically inclined, it seems to be taking quite a bit longer than anticipated. (I had an issue with a rounded off skid plate bolt that I had to drill out, but that just delayed the diff drop kit install a little)

I've also called around to every auto parts store I can think of looking for the repair manual, but to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sorry - to specify, I'm interested in the best way to pull out the front strut assembly. It looks like I have to remove several front end components to slide it out, but I'm not sure. Tie rod? Stabalizer bar? Is there a best way? Or am I just missing something?

Can somebody tell me if a Diff Drop is necessary for the setup that I have. My specs are in my signature. Also will it fit with the Budbuilt skids? Does anybody here have the diff. drop spacers with a V8?

Please excuse my stupidity. (I'm 18 this is my first car and I've only had it since June) but what are steep cv angles? Are they bad? And what causes them. Thanks so much. And again, sorry for my stupidity.

Lol at least you asked and didn't just assume! Cv stands for constant velocity, they are what drive the front wheels in a fwd car or 4wd one. Too much lift causes steep cv angles which can damage the shafts over time.

The CVs run from the differential (located in the middle of the front end) to the wheel. When you lift with any type of suspension lift, the wheels are pushed down and the differential gets raised up, thus the CVs connecting the two are now at a steeper angle. An angle that's too steep can cause premature wear on the front drive train. The idea behind the diff drop is to lower the diff to reduce the angle (stress) on the cv. Due to other limiting factors, 3" is about the max lift you can go with safely. At 3", the angles on the CVs is not enough to begin causing issues, this that is why its considered a waste. Although advertised at a 1" drop, actual results are much less, so it adds very little benefit.

Short version, yes the ome lift contributes to this, but the diff drop really is not needed.

2012 4Runner SR5 with OME

I've got the medium OME on my rig. Haven't done a lot of off road with it yet, just a bit in Montana, headed to Moab in the spring for a good ring out. Looks good and handles well. Although I will mention this about alignment. I got the OME as it was supposed to be an engineered system, and not high enough to require any additional aftermarket mods. I've had it to 2 alignment shops now and factory specs for Caster cannot be achieved. I'm in contact with ARB and my local shop that did the install to see what's going on here. Factory specs for Caster are 2.5º to 4.0º and mine sits at 1.7º. In searching forums, I've found that Camber is important to tire wear, and Caster shouldn't hurt tire tire wear but affects steering handling. It seems to handle pretty well but seems to wander a bit more than before lift. I realize there is aftermarket UCA's to accomodate this but OME was supposed to be a stand alone mod. I'll post more when I hear back from ARB- they have said they are surprised, and that factory specs should be achievable

G.I.G., here is a list of my set up.

OME 885/895 springs
OME 140/141 shocks
285/70r/17 BFG KO'S
Spider Trax wheel spacers
Light Racing Upper Control Arms

I have had the Light Racing UCA's for a couple months, they are great, my alignment came in perfectly. In the future this will always be a must have mod for me with lifted trucks.

Found this gem. G.I.G., did you have to trim anything with the
OME, spidertrax and new UCAs when putting those BFG 285/70s on? My setup is about to be:

OME 886/896
OME 90000/60004
285/70/17 KO2s
spidertrax 1.25" spacers
camburg UCAs

I just don't want to have to trim anything or very much at all. Any input would be great.

Holy thread revival. 4 years later...

Anyways. You'll have to trim. And probably do a body mount chop.
