33s on your 4runner? pictures please

P225 75 R15 were the standard (ie, not optional) tire wheel combos for the '01 4Runner according to the brochure. According to the tire calculator I used, the difference in circumference between 225 75 R15 and the 285 70 R17 is 15.63 %. Circumference translates to the distance travelled per revolution so if LINY was getting 12 mpg on a speedo calibrated for 225 75 R15s, he is actually getting 13.8 mpg on 285 70 R17s.

that sounds closer...I dunno someone posted on my timeline thread saying i was actually getting 18mpg...whatever...doesn't matter, it's a 4Runner it's not a Smart car.

brian2sun- my truck sits alot lower than yours because it's an 01 with the mall crawler springs.

FACT: My truck is a V6 3.4 5VZ-FE. It came from the factory with the 225's and 15" wheels. All power + AC. It was originally a lease.

I'd like to see the proof of that. when you increase the tire size, your engine may have to put out extra 15% of the work to gain the extra 5% distance. that's why the engine has a power curve, not a straight line.

just an example, friend of mine is a fishing boat skipper. the twin diesel engines run 20 gallons per hour when cruising at 10 knots(11mph). when bump the speed to 14 knots, the fuel consumption jumped to 40 gallon per hour, 100% increase.

Thats what I'm referring to when I say turning gas into noise... :hatsoff:

Now, to the argument-er-ers----> My truck on 35's with the factory 4.30's sucks gas like an Ethiopian mosquito. I don't care really my mpg's as its not a DD.

How are Mobil 1 oil filters? Are they better than OEM, cause i may switch.

just got 33's on mine today, have ome 891 coils in the rear, with a 2.5 inch spacer in the front and a 2 in body lift, runs great with no rubbing at all

I am fine with how wide my 265/70s are i just want more height and going with the 265/75 i would get that correct? and with a mean tire it would look more badass correct?

because now I am thinking if I just get some 265/75s and throw some 1.5 inch spacers on It would look pretty good and id keep the shitty MPG i get already now? correct



I really dont no why I am stressing about this so bad, I am probably selling the 4runner in a year anyway.. I guess I am trying hard to make myself fall back in love with it so I will keep it longer

No... they are both the same width at 75...

285 are approx 33" tall
265 are approx 31" tall

the more badass tire will always be the bigger one.

295 = width

70 = aspect ratio... basically how tall they are relative to the tire size.

r = radial

16 = rim size.

For example, my tires are 255/85/r16. They are tall (85) and skinny (255) radial tires on 16" rims.

which one is it 285 wide? or 285 tall?

The first number is the width of the tire in mm. The second number is the percentage of the width and that is the sidewall height.
