**35's on a 4th Gen - The Fitment Guide**

i am planning on going to 35's on my next set of tires but don't want to go with a BL mainly because of the gaps it will make on the bumpers. I am pretty sure I could adjust the front bumper but the rear can't be adjusted without a lot of cutting and rewelding.

You could always do a half inch...

:yo:

no problems here. proper bumpstop extensions make this work. I'm a LCG kind of guy, so I want it a low as possible.

seems to be more of a preference thing. but I also notice a lot of variation from one t4r to the next. some people need massive BMCs to even accomplish 33s while others need to just trim the plastic a bit. my rear tires rubbed the front of the wheel well at full stuff and a buddy of mine has zero issues and is running almost the same setup.

so yeah, maybe a BL is needed for your rig, but it's not for everyone.

J.

Yeah I feel ya I am also a LCG type a guy as well and at first I was not for it.. but as you explain rubbing on the front part of the rear wheel well will be alleviated by the body lift quite a bit, only other option would be to get upgraded extended links which is much more expensive than a body lift. I’m not usually for body lifts and another Toyotas like the Tacoma‘s and pick ups I would not ever use one but on this SUV it really was not designed to stuff 35 inch tires.. so either cut or deal with the rubbing but in my opinion a 1 inch body lift is not going to hurt your CG much. I also don’t have bumps stop job extensions which I most probably should.. I will fabricate some up in the next week or so and then put them to the test to see if I notice any difference.

Yeah this is true it does leave a small gap in the front bumper. But how long do you plan on keeping your stock bumper? Not many of us do when we are talking about wheeling these vehicles.

So it does depend on how you plan on using the vehicle as well.

Just my two pennies

Um, haven't had stock bumpers for a while.....just my two pennies.

Yeah it CAN be done.. but if you’re actually wheeling and don’t wanna stuff your wheel wells fully flexed out.. it’s a darn good recommendation. And not very expensive comparatively either. I wouldn’t go over 1” though.

Plusss it looks a bit better IMO

Yeah you're right, I don't actually wheel lol. The easier way to move the front wheel forward away from the firewall/back of the front fender is a proper alignment with SPC UCAs and setting the LCA cam bolts (taco tabs in my instance).

Looks are very subjective.

I'm also looking at pizza cutter 35s. Should be a little easier to fit than the standard 35x12.5 or 315/70. Kenda makes a 35x10.5 Klever MT for the ultimate pizza cutter, Nitto makes a 35x11.5 Trail Grappler, Toyo makes a 35x11.5 Open Country AT3. AT3's are looking good to me! If they can be found anywhere...

thegame7 I’ll probably run the Klever RT 35/10.5R17 next. AT3W’s are wearing like iron though, have about 25k on them and no end in sight.

I’ll probably buy the klevers and sell the wildpeaks while I can still get something for them. Before the klevers go up in price.

Then I’ll have to re gear, because V6 life......

Pic I found of the 35x10.5's! I'm real curious about the Toyos though, not much info out there yet

Help me Feel better!

Trying to go from 285/75/17's ( 33.86 x 11.26) to 255/85/17 (34.6 x 9.8)

The only real clearance issue I can foresee dealing with after the trimming I've previously done is the Body mounts.

I currently run the JBA UCA's which have been great.

I do not currently have the Body mount Boxed, I'm sure I need to do that after all adjustments...

How far can I cut safely chop this to run these tires?.

I know body mount relocations are an option but that's not a road im ready to go down.

*The below pictures are full lock to each side on the steering wheel at the point where there least clearance is with the current setup.

I've seen a guy with a GX470 grind down quite a bit of his rubber body bushing to get his 37's to fit. And it still works great. :becky:

IMO you don't need to box them, but they will look a little nicer. Grind or cut as far as you have to, with my 37's I cut right up next to the bushing. Don't be shy, cutting up your tires while rubbing on that mount will cause more damage than cutting the mount a little extra.

That is encouraging! lol I guess it's time to be surgical with the Sawzall..

Im also considering 295/70/17.. which puts me back at 34.. but it may not look Too skinny.. Ive read some things about going to skinny is starting to mess with the stability of the truck.. I dont want that.. Decision decisions..

I saw what that guy said on FB, I wouldn't worry about that. That was the same guy that 5 min earlier posted a question that could have been easily googled, I'd venture he was talking out of his ass. Lots of people like running skinny tires, and the longer contact patch they have poses several benefits. One of them being rain performance (which was his complaint against skinny tires) can be improved because the higher contact pressure and narrower section width are more likely to cut through puddles rather than hydroplane. Of course this depends a lot on the tread design and how effectively it can clear water, but in general skinnier tires are less likely to hydroplane

I think the performance benefits of the taller skinny 255/85 vs a 295/70 are probably worth it.. but im so torn on this.. I wish mickey thompson would have just made a 285/75/17.. im so stuck on this tire.. lol

Its a toss up, and I don't think either will be bad. I was hesitant to go the skinny tire route, but I took the leap and we'll see how I like it
