**35's on a 4th Gen - The Fitment Guide**

Lift helps quite a bit if you don't want to play the "will it roll" game when you have tires that are borderline too big for the platform and one wheel is stuffed and your sway bars are disconnected.

Wheel choice and alignment is huge though. Good luck with your fenders on stock height with 35's
Your standard bolt on 3" suspension lift doesn't help with tire clearance. Wheel choice and alignment both play a bigger role. You're only options to clear larger tires is cut or limit up-travel. Lift only helps clear through the starbucks drive through.

Do you mean spacer lifts? Body lifts are pretty helpful.

I needed to cut back my 4x4labs rear bumper to fully stuff my 35's with no bump stop spacers.

Again, I don't see the apparently obvious negativity of a BL? It allows me to weld my sliders and bumpers 1.5" higher, and my 35's would probably rub the tops of the wheel wells without it. Allows you more room in the engine bay to mount stuff like compressors and Switch-Pros or SPods.

The usual choice is 4.56 or 4.88, 4.88 being the better choice for tons of extra weight with the V6. You won't break the axle shafts in the rear, only the gears. But the OEM rear gears I would expect to break once you get in the 34"-35" tire range and do serious crawling so rebuilding the rear diff with a solid pinion spacer and ARB lockers is a great idea.

Body lift helps you roll more, which is pretty terrifying, but you're right that it helps you mount sliders higher. Why would you want your sliders higher? I'd rather punch a hole in my sliders than my frame, maybe you don't climb rocks but most of the gates I see are giant rocks. Also short people use my sliders as steps and with the extra height of 35s I don't know that an inch is going to do anything useful. Higher bumper means more chance to try something inappropriate and smash the front diff.

Spacer lifts are a joke, with stock suspension anyway. I do need a rear spacer on my coils, if you're not using a spring compressor for the spacers on your coilovers you're asking for a bad time.

I have a V8, so maybe I was remembering a gearing thread for v8 specifically. Diamond axles only come with 4.88 or 5.29 if I remember right.

I definitely want 35s installed before I have my rear bumper built to fit my truck.

Factory IFS has about 8" of wheel travel if I recall correctly. Lifting merely changes where in that 8" of travel you sit at ride height; it doesn't change your travel... the tires will still hit at all the same spots regardless of how much you change your ride height via suspension. You can increase down travel via longer travel shocks and aftermarket arms (LT or otherwise), but only the bumps stops will limit your up-travel and how much you need to trim.

I agree there are benefits of lifting. Tire fitment isn't one of those benefits.

The amount of incorrect information here drives me nuts. But heres a picture of my runner with 35's! I made a pretty good write of about a year ago contained in this thread of exactly how I made them fit.

After market shocks, such as the Icon extended travel will net you more travel. Not much, I got a addition 1.5" of down travel but that makes a difference.

I personally wouldn't regear. The axles and shafts on these 4 gens are incredible weak. Keeping the factory gear ratio will help not put as much torque on the shafts, but will make the transmission and engine work harder. I've have personal seen dozens of ring gears and CV axles grenade, but have yet to see a engine and tranny go. (You know, except for my own of course) It might feel better on the high way but if your trying to run 35's your giving up road manners anyways and MPGs anyways. I average a little under 16 MPG which isn't too bad. Don't be confused about what your car is telling you what MPG you are getting. Larger circumference tires means less wheel rotations per mile and the speedo doesn't correct itself. Mine is off by around 35%.

A body lift does serve a purpose. Lets you fit bigger tires. Been running no sway bars on 1" body lift and 3.5 suspension for over 30k miles. If you're worried about body roll maybe you should just stick some 265/70's

After running 35's for quite sometime, I wouldn't of gone this route. I've committed so deeply into them I have purchased a second vehicle to drive to work. Now with that said, not having to drive the Runner to work everyday I'm glad I have 35's. The performance offload is pretty damn good for a IFS vehicle. I can still maintain and exceed the speed limit up i70 all day and have reliabitliy of a Toyota.--Shots fired at Jeep owners-- If you are not willing to cut your body mount and trim some plastic this size is not for you.

Everyone wants to put 35s on, but worried about, what do I need to cut, what do I need to bang on.
Each ride is different to a point.
Granted I'm running aftermarket bumpers, but no BL. 4.5" lift front, 4" rear.
Bump stops help the rear for you guys with all plastic.

Basicly what I'm getting at is, these rides wasn't designed for 35s. If you want them, get ready to cut, smash, and beat some parts to get them to work to a happy medium.

And yes, I have some minor problem spots, but content.

Basically,

Can you get them to fit effectively? Yes

How? Figure it out.

:biggrin2:

Ive probably said it somewhere in this thread, but a compromise to 34's seems to be a good solution for the guys who wanna daily driver these trucks with over sized tires and still wheel them.

I did have to cut, chop and bend a few pieces to make it work, specifically offroad and under extreme flex conditions but not quite as extreme as with a 35. With the v8 at least I still have enough power to drive normally, and cruise highway speeds easily, In 4lo on the trails its still in tank mode.

I don't think I would do 35's unless it became a dedicated trail rig. but thats only my opinion.

MPG is no longer a concept if you decide to upsize your tires. If it is.. Dont upside your tires. That said, on long highway cruises at 70mph, im still getting 17 to 18 based on GPS mileage and math at the pump.

^ +1 I'll cut until I stop rubbing. hahah.

That's not bad for the V8. V6 regeared to 4.88s and after a long road trip I averaged about 14. That's fully armored from head to toe and I had to run 3.5k rpms up a mountain pass in both directions to keep up with traffic.

Yeah my numbers are with armor and loaded up. I think once you change out the front bumper any sense of aerodynamics it had remaining go out the window. That said, id still change it when I eventually get the money together.

That about how you have to deal with it.
I still have a slight rub on 1 BMC, and 1 UCA.

More concerned on drive line hitting tank skid on full flex. Already cut it up 3 times, still have light knick spots, going to have to get creative now.

I've literally read and reread this entire thread so many times trying to plan out how to do it and I'm finally going to pull the trigger on 315/70R17 on black Friday and make those puppies fit . Thanks everyone for their inputs and being the Guinea pigs of this

I'm not running a body lift. I'm also not afraid to cut though.

I don't know what you have for rear bump stops, but you will need bump stop spacers without a body lift.

My 1.5" BL is the exact amount to keep me from rubbing the top of my wheel wells. Any more wheel offset and I would rub too.

MT LT would make it easy to fit 35's in the back with their 3" spacers. Though with more droop on one side you might rub with the inside of your opposite tire due to the axle angle.

Neither am I. 315s are shipping now, should go on next week with 2.5" of lift and no body lift. Buddy has identical wheel specs with 35s, test fitting this weekend if I have time
