3D printed outlet cover - Convert rear ashtray to 12V/USB outlets

I'm getting close to having a mudflap design. I bought a right side mud flap for $40 (those are in stock at Toyota dealers, it's the left side that's sold out/ discontinued) and tried 3D scanning it at work, but our 3D scanner is a POS. I found a local company to scan it but that set me back $150.... sometimes I'm impulsive I guess.

Anyway, I cleaned up the 3D scan file, mirrored it (to create the elusive left mudflap) and submitted quotes to have it made with SLS. All the quotes came back between $350-$2000 per mudflap.
It was also too big to print on the Makerbot at work, so I copied what Dfarms did with his mudflaps and cut off the "flap" portion and smoothed out the shape. I'll print it on the Makerbot this weekend and see how it comes out, but I imagine it will need 1-2 more iterations before it's done.

I think you'll actually have more interest for the "cap" design than the full flap. Anybody with sliders who actually uses their truck is going to avoid having the flap hanging down.

I personally would want a small cap, then I'd add regular flexible mud flaps below that.

Ha this is perfect! I currently have the USB outlet in the rear that you gave me but I have nothing for the back seats. I'll be getting one of these soon.

i almost ordered one of these just because it is so damn cool, and who knows, maybe one day having power in the back seats will be useful! right now, the only passenger in the rear is my dog lol.

Printing out the design this weekend OP, expected ~ 2.5 hr print @ 9gs material. I havnt ordered my wire kit yet however. I thinking of using one slot for a dual USB charging port and the other outlet for a toggle LED push light slot. Ill lyk how it goes.

Have you though about how you're going to step the voltage down from 12V (car battery) to 5V (USB outlets)? This is one of the reasons I wanted to hook my rear USB outlet directly up to my stereo, which has two USB outputs at something like 5V, 1.9A max. I'm sure there's a way though, plenty of people hardwire USB charging outlets into their car.

I had a few ideas run through my head but my best solution so far would be to install an inline step down like Option 1 or Option 2. If I already had my aftermarket deck installed I would lean that way and draw it from the stereo.
