3D Printing and the Satoshi Mod

Tin you are on to something!!! If you really enjoy doing this, there are many imaginations on this forum to help you design, produce, and test many mods. Will be watching this interesting thread also to see what develops.:pop2:

Lately I've been regretting letting this project (and thread) die. It's been almost a year, but I have some fresh ideas and more motivation than ever. I've decided that I'm gonna bring this project back from the dead. Going full speed ahead with this and will begin fabbing a new mock-up tomorrow. Keep your eyes out for updates

This is so epic! Love it man! Don't give up!
I was thinking, if you get all the pieces made, everything put together, couldn't you just use it as a template to make a mold and then a person can just make these out of fiberglass easily and fairly quickly. Make the "frame" of the grill out of fiberglass and then just insert the mesh or whatever of your choice and ready to go. Insert in truck and enjoy! ;)

How accurate/detailed are these Kinect 3D Scans? Also do you need the Xbox also or can you hotwire it for a USB input with 3rd party software?

I could use a cheap 3D scanner that details fairly accurately...

I've never used any sort of 3D scanner, but the Kinect seems like it works pretty well. It looks to be plug-n-play on Windows computers with a lot of software support for scanning. The main problem I have with scanning is that it requires some clean-up of the model and anything that needs to be precise probably won't work out.

True, but if you have the model in the computer you can scale it based on real world measurements of a section and the software should adjust the entire model for you.

Subscribed. Really excited to see where this goes, and just like JustSomeName said I would love the Raptor design. I actually saw this on Instagram with an early 4th gen having the Raptor look, and it's sick. I don't think the owner is on here

Small update regarding today's progress:

I began by taking some rough measurements of the top 4 mounting points (e.g. distance between mounts, offset between mounts, curve of hood). Then I threw a quick prototype of the top of the frame together in Solidworks. It came out pretty good considering the rough measurements and guesstimation used. As you can see in the pictures, it fits well towards the middle, but needs a little tweaking towards the edges (they poke out a bit). After I get the top of the frame how I like it, the corners will be next.

A little off subject but how do you like those headlights Tin?
They've been on my Runner for a little over a year now, and I've always liked the looks, but build quality is mediocre at best. Passenger housing collects moisture that eventually corroded my low beam connection and Driver side halos are now dead.

Thanks I took my originals apart and painted the bezel black. I love them but I like halo's and want a set. Might just add a LED strip somewhere. Like all the newer vehicles.
