3G Limited with Sport hood

have no idea why i'm thinking about this, and at 2:47am too boot, but:

a few years ago, maybe 2002, at a local NJ dealer, they had a brand new Limited but it had a Sport hood w/ the scoop. i checked the sticker and there was no mention of a 'sport hood' option. a few weeks later, i saw one similar to the one on the lot around my area. i was kinda bummed because i liked the fact it only came on the sport (which i had at the time, a 2000 model).

so my question is, simply out of curiousity, has anyone seen these? anyone know the 'story' with these? it def. wasn't a mod as the 1st one i saw was straight from the factory. so yeah, anyone know??

as far as i know, no limiteds ever had the scoop.

it really could have been a mod as far as someone paying the dealership to install a sport hood.

the only way to know is to see if the vin on the hood matches that of the truck.

this was years ago, so even if i wanted, i could not get a VIN. the thing is, it was on the lot w/ a dealer sticker on it, brand new. it was black with the champagne color on the bottom.

i've seen SR5s w/ the hood scoop on the street and figured it was def. a mod. but if someone were to order/ mod it and have the dealership do it, why would it be on the lot? unless they decided they didn't want it later. i know it may sound far fetched because like you, i only knew the SR5 Sports to have the hood scoop, but this ONE Limited i saw had it and i thought it was truly weird.

i know several of the early sports and highlander editions are labeled sr5's because thats what they are..

theyre sr5 sport editions.

Yea, limiteds were never offered with the scoop. The only way is if the dealer added it later, but that would be very rare.

I can only assume that's what was done then. i tell you, it was the oddest thing. and i swear it wasn't mentioned on the sticker at all either. maybe the OG had damage to it and they replaced it w/ the Sport hood??? whatever the reason, it totally stumped me

My friend sell Toyotas and he said back in '01 he sold a Limited and the guy paid an extra $700 to have a scooped hood swapped over so it's been done but probably only a handful of times otherwise somebody did the swap themselves.

You're cheapest bet is to find a hood in a junk yard since even buying an aftermarket scooped hood here www.partstrain.com and then spending $150 for the internal scoop parts and paint still will come close to $600.

About the IM tour;they are supporting the new DVD which chronicles their history from their start through the Piece Of mind album and on tour they are doing songs from just that era and incorporating the "Early Days" into their stage set then next year they will release part 2 which will cover the Powerslave album to No Prayer For the Dying I think and then tour again which gives younger (or people that never saw them) fans a chance to see what they might have missed from the early tours. I've already seen every tour since '83s World Piece Tour and am so looking forward to this one and the next several. :rocker: :guitar2:

finding a hood intact at a junkyard is usually pretty hard... most cars end up there because their front end is smashed to hell.

What you're saying is that early sport editions were simply a sub-trim level of the SR5 as opposed to a trim by itself.

99-00 they had highlander edition which was not labeled in any way actually and didnt, i believe, have the visible skid plate.

in 01-02, they called it sport edition, added these emblems to the doors but still left the sr5 badge int he rear, and added the skid plate.

The skid plate wasn't introduced on the SE Runners til the '02 model.
I would love to get a hold of the OEM SE emblems but for now I have the "TRD Sport" stickers along with the skidplate.

As far as I know, 99-01s were SR5, and was offered the option of a Sports Package, with variations in that...

My dealer "Wagner Toyota, Lunenburg, MA" quoted me $660 for an unpainted scooped hood...

The '99-'00 SR5 "sport" was called the "Highlander" then in '01 is was the "Sport Package" and then in '02 they added emblems on each front door which presented it as the "Sport Edition" and came with the faux skidplate.
The '99-'00 Highlanders got the Limited's 5 spoke wheels but still had the smaller unpainted flares on the '99s while the '00s got the monochrome Limited style flares.

i have a 2000 limited 2wd 4runner and i know for a fact that they did not come with the sport hood. it was only for the sport edition ones. i had a collision center order me a brand new hood with the scoop from the factory and he painted and installed it for $600
