3rd Gen 4Runner Lift Information and FAQ's

Thanks for the info. Talked to one place last week and they were talking like $85 an hour 5-6 hour job. Seemed a lot. 4Wheel parts guy in denver estimated about $500-$600 to do it and said that includes the $160 alignment. Brakes Plus is doing alignments for like $58 right now so.

Might just make an add on craigslist to see if anyone wants to make an extra $300 when im ready to have the lift put on, then just take an get alignment from somewhere that wont crack my wallet open

For 300 bucks I could probably do it. Pm me if u want. Don't cheap out on the alignment. Have a reputable shop do it. U get what u pay for. Good work costs money.

Average shop charges about 100 bucks an hour. If I as a mechanic make 20 bucks an hour, your saying I should do it for 2 hours pay-or 40 bucks? No thanks.

Well two things...you over charge your clients or my shop has a better deals. Doesn't take that long for a shop to swap out those parts.

So your saying that if I give u 40 bucks you'll install new coils, struts and shocks all around on a truck that's 20 years old? And use all your own tools that you shelled out money for?

Ok enough bickering, it's always the same thing in the end, the guy didn't want to pay, looks and looks and in the end ends up paying so time will do it's work. But I agree it is expensive.

Ok so I believe I have all the parts for my lift but not 100% sure if I'm missing anything.
bilstein tundra struts
bilstein 4runner shocks
toytec/eibach springs front and rear
toytec differential drop

Is there anything I've missed?

Hmm

I'd pick one brand of shocks all around. I think you can get all 4 Bilsteins and some OME Springs for roughly the same price. At least things would sort of match up. Don't know much about the Toytec springs or shocks though.

I've been reading a lot about these lately and I figured if they were really good I would have seen them turn up in threads. For springs I usually see either Land Cruiser, OME, or FJ and Shocks are usually Bilstein of some kind. Just my inexperienced 2c.

Just installed my OME lift... went with the 881/906 combo plus I put in some 10mm spacers in the rear as I wasnt sure if the 906's would be tall enough to have it sit right. I prefer the rear to sit half an inch higher than the front, giving it an aggressive stance without obvious forward rake. I went with the usual 90004 shocks in the front but decided to go with the newer 60073 soft shocks in the rear as Ive hear many complaints about the 906/60028 combo being too stiff.

I have to say for me, it sits perfectly, and the ride is amazing. Feels so much more planted than with the stock suspension. The rear end doesnt bounce around like an old Cadillac now. Definitely firm and responsive but not rough, still absorbs the small bumps. It seems to corner about the same as before, given the suspension is tighter, but the truck sits higher up. I havent measured the difference in height yet but, being a 2000, it had the lowrider springs on it so the difference is pretty noticable for me. Ill post some pics for anyone who is wondering about this lift. Id definitely recommend the 60073 softer shocks with the 906's. I wouldnt want it any more stiff but it is perfect the way it is now, mind you I dont carry a lot of weight around in the back. Tires are 265/75R16 FYI.

And just to give anyone an idea of the angle of the control arms

If anyone has any questions ask away. I know when I was deciding on the lift I had a zillion questions and had a hard time pulling the trigger.

That looks perfect. I think this will be the lift I go with when I decide to lift mine. May do the 5100s instead for shocks since I think they're slightly less expensive.

Looks awesome man! Looking forward to some measurements. When you do, please include center of hub to bottom of fender.

Also what made you choose 881 over 880?

To everyone else,

I'm looking at the 5100 rear shocks and wanted to know if I should go with the new 4runner specific ones, or if the tundra ones are still the ones to get?

Sequoia rear springs

Has anyone ever used sequoia rear springs on a 3rd gen 4runner for a lift. If so what was the difference in ride height.

Sorry I still havent gotten around to measuring. Its just been pouring rain here on the west coast. Ill get on it sometime this week.

As for the springs, I figured it was more worth the money to get an extra half inch of lift. The 881 spring rate is the same as the 880 so the ride wouldnt differ. Basically came down to a bit more lift. I know the 906's are 2" so I just bought the 10mm rear spacers incase the rear needed a bit more height to get the stance right, and it did. If I was just going to go with the 880's Id just go with the 906, with 881 Id recommend the rear spacers. Having said that I have no idea how/if the springs will settle, and obviously every vehicle differs slightly. I have to say, to me, I really notice the difference, particularly when I stand next to the truck or sit in it. But overall it really isnt that much lift. I swear the 880's will barely be any lift at all. Depends what you want. Hope that helps!

Lift noob here.

I bought a 4Runner that has 33'' tires. It has come time to replace the shocks and springs. I have heard good things about Bilstein 5100s. If I need to clear my 33s, what ALL do I need to put in my cart?

I took my truck into a shop that deals with lifted trucks and they quoted me for Monroe struts in the front. I have heard those do not ride that well, so I have been shopping around. One thing I noticed is they quoted me for 2'' shocks in the rear. Why would they be 2''? For the truck to sit level is the rear raised less? Or is he taking into account the spacers that are already lifting it? Am I correct in assuming I need 3''of lift to clear 33s?

Thank you for your help. Any advice or reading material is welcome. I am totally ignorant when it comes to this stuff.

Ive been over this list as well as others. Can someone help me out? I want to make sure I purchased the correct parts and make sure everything will fit and work together.

First off, I already have a 3" spacer lift, front and rear, diff drop, new cvs, spindle gussets, upper control arms with uniballs

I ordered bilstein 5100 for a 2000 tundra both front and rear, and OME 883 front, OME 891 rear. Will this combo work good? Too high rear? too low rear? What setting on the front bilsteins?

I'm going to try to get it all installed this thanksgiving weekend

Judging by the first page though it should match up really good being 3" front lift and meant for extra weight. Should be a really even ride
