The Trans Temp Xgauge for SCII - Myth or Not - ?

I have been searching for this data for a while and ran on to a couple of forums with related posts. One is from a 02 t4r owner that has claimed to find the code for trans xgauge..

I ordered a SCII and am waiting for it to show up..

meanwhile i was wondering if any SCII owners want to give the code a try and post results.

I have a Scan Gauge II installed in my 4Runner. Clever device and very useful.

Sorry to say I have not messed with any of the custom XGauge stuff. If you find the code to read the transmission temp please post in this thread.

Some vehicles don't support all functions so its possible we will not be able to get this info out of our OBD II computer. I have no idea if this is our situation though.

Yeah interesting.....

I read this bit of info on the other thread after I posted my reply. Just a wild guess but I am willing to bet the code will work for most Toyota's. At least the trucks anyway.

Since this fellow got it working on his 02 3rd Generation I suspect the same code will work for all years of the 3rd Generation and likely for the 4th as well.

Cool....now I will just have to figure out how to program the xgauge stuff. I was not really in a hurry to add the ability to read transmission temperature especially since I don't tow but it would still be helpful at checking the overall health of my transmission on occasion.

BTW, its interesting what the OBD II computer is capable of reading. We might even be able to get real time Horsepower and torque information.

I just tried out this code, but it doesn't seem to work. No numbers displayed at all. Idk, maybe I just entered it in wrong or maybe they can't read the trans temp of earlier 3rd gens (mine's a 98).

I'll try and enter it in again sometime this weekend and if it works then I will let you guys know.

Anybody else have any possible codes to share?
 
I just put in the numbers posted above and now have tranny temp numbers! Scangauge rules!

For the record, I have an 02 sr5 auto.
 
I just programmed this in, and it appears to be working! I didn't start the truck and drive around (I don't have anywhere to go at the moment), but the gauge did correctly display the ambient air temp in my garage! So, that's cool. I have a '99, BTW.
 
I tried entering the numbers in again, but it still doesn't work!! :rant: I'm sure that I entered it in correctly and I have the latest software version. ( I just bought mine about 3-4 months ago)
 
It works!!!

Well i got my scii and put the at temp code in and it works perfectly! I played around with it a bit and could see the gauge work. i had it in L with the ebrake on while i was messing with the SCII and watched temp go up and then down once i put it in N.

So the trans temp code works on a 2000 SR5!

When I posted the ATF codes you found at Ih8mud.com someone came back with these codes.......maybe someone can try them out and see if they work for their vehicle.....:cheers:

Whoa! Cool! Thanks for the codes. I'll try them soon.

Just to update: Today was the first day driving with the ATF temp Xgauge. It worked great! My temp never got above 159F, with ambient air temps at 45F. I think that's good, right? Best to keep it under 170F, if I remember correctly.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I have just ordered a Scangauge II and was wondering if any new codes have been found? Fingers crossed that the trans temp code works for my '01 SR5... also, searched a bit but couldn't find any newer pertinent threads, if there is a more recent one could someone please direct me there?
