Just going by obkook's posts, rating at around 30pmg, I only get 14mpg. And since were splitting hairs here, 343-294=49, there's the 50 lbs of tq. And 183-145 is only 38 not 40hp, sorry for the rough estimates, hope I didn't confuse anyone else.

Here's my general outlook on it. Turbo diesels are better than gasoline engines in almost every way. Stronger, last longer, fuel efficient and a lot less electronics. Never foul out a plug! If any of that requires clarification feel free to start a gas vs diesel thread.

again, nice build obkook:hatsoff:

Not to nitpick, but those figures in the upper 200's and lower 300's are measuring the torque in Nm, different than lb/ft. No idea what the conversion rate is, but assuming that the 294Nm pertains to the 3.4L, I'd assume that means the TD puts out roughly 25% more torque, which, again, roughly translates to 50 lb/ft. Huh, I wonder how that works out either way.

Touche sir! The Nm conversion was bugging me Torque Conversion
343Nm=252lb ft tq and 294=216 for a difference of 36 ftlbs. And it's all about where those #'s present themselves in the torque curve, which I'm sure the diesel hits it's high a lot sooner and maintains it. Diesels are beasts!

But all these #'s are worthless considering that they are more than likely measured at the crank no the wheels. The only truth is told by the dyno. Parasitic loss is a bi*ch!

I'm not trying to be picky. I'm just going by the numbers that I've seen. I think the two motors have almost exactly the same torque.

I agree that diesels are better in a lot of cases. I would love to have a diesel car or truck...just not the 1KZ-T.

@Jon - the tranny remains unchanged - i.e. bolt on. You need the wiring harness though (well, life would be much easier that way).

regarding fuel consumption, I'm suspect of the reported 30mpg, or at the very least, that's all hwy driving with something like Michelins and no lift or mods.

I have not yet had a good chance gather good data on mine yet, but the builder put on almost 1000 miles and was getting 24mpg-ish (with a lead foot).

If I did the conversion on the torque correctly:

gasser - 294 N.m = 216 ft/lbs
diesel - 343 N.m = 252 ft/lbs

Ugh. I wish my 4Runner actually put out 183 and 207 at the wheels lol. :nono:

Maybe it does, with all the performance accessories I've added...:D:D:D

:jk:

Edit: All joking aside, what's the actual claimed output of the 3.4L? I thought that the 4Runner's with it made 183 hp/207 lb/ft and the Tacoma's with it made 190 hp/210-ish lb/ft?

Knows what he is talking about, general rule is take %15 from crank rating to get the power put down to the wheels. Won't be completely accurate but a good method.

Thanks I appreciate it..No I don't, but I live about 5 minutes down the road from Ford's Colony.

Cool cool.. I have a lot of friends at W&M and my parents own a few properties in the Colony, and your background looked a lot like Ford's Colony or Kingsmill.

Ok... they're gone!

Now I'm paranoid about the rockers, anyone know if they have mud gaurds for the front that match the rear ones?

Yeah it's called Herculiner! My buddy just did his black truck and it turned out real nice. But looks much better with the boards gone.

Oh really? that's cool, I have friends at W&M, FC & KM too.. funny you mentioned Kingsmill because the barcode sticker on my window is to get through the gate there, my grandparents live there.
