I got a chance to test out the bighorns this past weekend, when my buddy got his Trooper with a 2" OME lift and 255/85 BFG KM's got completely high centered at the end of a 150ft flooded trail. I failed to get enough traction in the 18 inches of water/mud to move him, However I got to pull out my first Jeep and bronco who failed at even getting into where he was.:naughty:

I dont have any pics from the trail but here are some after math shot from my GF's parking lot.

I can get the pics of were he got stuck if anyone is interested.

It messed up my steam cleaned engine bay, but 1 hour with a pressure washer got the car totally mud free.

I love my bighorns, they do awesome. How you like them pizza cutters. I thought about getting them to save a little money, but ended up getting a good deal with the 285's. Truck looks good. I try to stay out of the mud when I can. As you know, it's just too much of a pain to clean.

I like them a lot, I was in water up near the frame with sticky mud under that and did just fine, I just couldnt get enough traction to budge a 5100 lbs trooper resting on its frame and rear diff (none of the tires where touching the muddy bottom). Yeah i need to invest in a high pressure steam cleaned to keep my car as clean as i would like to.

Thanks! I ended up painting them because I didn't know how to remove them, and it worked out pretty well haha. Yea, I'd like to paint the bumpers but I'm kinda scared. If I do I'll have to sand the hell out of it first. I'm worried the paint might chip off down the road. Maybe I can fit some 99 bumpers on it. I've seen those stock black and it looks pretty good. Hopefully in a few weeks. After the deck plate mod!:biggrin2:

Just plasti dip your bumpers. See if you like it. It holds up great no sanding or prep really just clean the surface. If you hate it, peel it off.

Yeah, ive had that problem on a few surfaces but not on my chrome bumpers its as smooth as anything. How does clear coating it work out, ive always wondered?

Just plasti dip your bumpers. See if you like it. It holds up great no sanding or prep really just clean the surface. If you hate it, peel it off.

Ok, thanks, I think I'll do that. I've heard nothing but good things about plasti dip. So just scrub the surface really well right? No sanding at all? I just hope it looks dark enough; since my truck is black, I don't want it to look faded black/grey or anything. I'm sure it will look good and I'm just worrying too much. I see from your picture it looks like you plasti dipped yours and it looks good.

Thanks man, that's a good idea. You think it would be fine to put a satin or even a gloss finish clear coat on after the plasti dip?...or if it would even make a difference? haha

Hey everyone. So I'm kinda new here and I've been creeping on this site for the past month or so. But I figure now that I got some things done to my stock 4Runner, I might as well participate.

Here it is when it was so boring, that if Christina Hendricks drove by in it topless, you wouldn't even look twice. ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I owe a lot of this look to GottaBeTRD as I pretty much completely plagiarized his truck haha. Sorry man. Plagiarism is the highest form of flattery.

Basically puts a protective barrier. Makes it a million times easier to clean. It's to protect the look, not the smooth finish. After a few offroad trips, my flares were toast. Had to peel it because nothing would get them clean again.

My line of duty has shown me that Plastidip is easily stained. Dirt, mud, even a greasy finger print, will last forever. Very annoying for all of the effort put forth, and very avoidable.

I did 2 coats of clear on all of my flares after plastidip. I did not do clear on my front bumper after plastidip.

Noticeable effects: The flares (with clear) are extremely protected against dirt and staining. They can be cleaned to brand new condition just like the rest of the truck, no problem.

The bumper: Stained, stained, stained! The obvious plastic rubber feel is there, it drags against your fingertips as you feel it. Your finger oils get stuck in it. Your towel's fibers and lint come off on it. PAIN IN THE ASS. This same dragging effect is why I have 4 extremely large scratches and scuffs on the front bumper from people walking by. The clear prevents this.

Clear it after you dip it. All of a sudden, it's just like touching normal paint. Life = easier. That, and you still get the showroom perfect black and your own choice in shine.

So much more durable, so much better looking, win win situation.

Man.....I wish I would have known this before I plasti-dipped my valance....:sobbing: I'm not a fan of painting parts while it's on the truck.....and taking off the bumper and dissassembling it again...PITA. I guess I'll be masking it off and painting it once the weather gets nicer outside....Thanks for the info man.

So, I couldn't wait for Spring weather to get here, and decided to put my mud tires back on! I'll just drive the truck on days where the roads are not invaded with salt!

Gonna polish up the wheels today, and post an updated pic of the truck....ALL CLEANED UP!

Friend with a Liberty told me there was an impossible obstacle in the middle of the woods on an old trail. Said him and his Jeep buddies had to winch up it. So I bit, drove down the trail and found it. A slick drainage pipe that they didn't have the traction, approach angle or flex for. The dam Yota wins again! :flipoff: Jeeps!

Small update yesterday, got some new wheels and tires. Then took off the running boards.

Unfortunately my wheels didn't come with center caps (I knew this ahead of time) and my center caps aren't a color match to the new wheels. Any tips on where to find the right color center caps are appreciated!

ndcent, if you like all black, plasti dip the entire rim, mask the lugs off and trace out the emblem on the center cap and peel it off and youll have some sick rims, my buddies thought i was running XD's or Rockstar wheels when they first saw mine!
