if its readable its good to go, the plate was altered yes, but their meaning of altered, is to change the lettering/numbering on the plate. the plate is still 100% readable. the rear plate was left unchanged as it needs to have tags. trust me i know what im talking about here.

-my vehicles have been certified by DOT in both washingtion and oregon for code 3. they have passed all OSP and WSP inspections and are accredited. i was asked why my front plate was cut down and i told the inspection officer my reasons, and he did not argue or tell me it was wrong or needed to be changed. he simply said "oh ok" and continued the inspection. the regs also state that the plate has to illuminated, is your front plate illuminated?

I don't run a front plate on my car and I don't illuminate it on the runner. The plate illumination comes from the tail lamp rule where it states that illumination is required for the rear plate. There are many laws that are not enforced. I have driven years without a front plate and I also have had my vehicles pass WSP inspection that were out of config. Fortunately, most of the officers I've come across have had better things to do.

The RCW says that its unlawful to display an altered plate or one that is illegible. It does not state that its acceptable to display an altered plate so long as it is legible. The OR code has similar wording and open ended wording 'but not limited to' so they could cite someone for any altered plate. The code addresses plates that are changed, altered, and disfigured and they are not legal for display.


Here is my mostly stock 4runner. Its not nearly as cool as some others, but I've been lurking around this thread and some others getting ideas.

PS the sweet moldy ford tempo is not mine.

just make sure you have it far enough back so it doesnt glare on the windshield. about 6" back from the front of the roof should be good.

Yeah, its going to be right above the rear seal of the sunroof.

Thanks a lot, Yeah it's a 40. Im going to just get a surco s4560 and make my own adapters that bolt the crossbars directly to the factory roof rack channels. I figured the light would negate any aero benefits of a rack with a sloped fairing.

Hopefully ill have everything together in the next few weeks to finally put it.

I've got clear corners to add - thing is, I have to take off my bumper for that... So it's not on the top of my list! Ha!

Shrockworks bumper hoop in the way. Can't slide the light out forward with the bumper installed.
