3rd Row Deleted! w/ pics and info (**Updates on page 3)

This is so amazing and motivated me to yank out my 3rd row. I got replacement side panels but non-3rd row have cutouts in the front of those panels (directly behind our second row) that we don’t have. One of the cutouts is apparently where the 2nd row locks in if you’d folded them down and then brought back up. How’d you deal with those? Just wondering how I might fill in/cover them up

I'll get you some pics a bit later. But I basically utilized some thin, flexible plastic paneling, cut to required size and covered with some 3M vinyl wrap. These were then inserted into the rubber channels where they are held in place as "block off plates."

Thanks a ton. Would love to know how to seal up those random openings. Trying to tell myself I don't see them since 2nd row kind of blocks the view but I know they're there... I cut into my old panels and thought I might try to make covers with those exact spots from the removed panels but...

Replacement parts

If you go down the route of replacing the 3rd row seat parts with non-3rd row seat parts, here are part numbers though colors might be different. Mine is a charcoal 4R.

Interior quarter trim panels (lower side panels)
- 64730-35140-C0 (right side, premium audio package for Limited trim)
- 64740-35100-C0 (left side)

Upper rear panels where seatbelts used to be:
- 6257035010B0 (rear right)
- 6258035030B0 (rear left)

- 5857460120C0

Hello Everybody!
The recent developments in this thread finally pushed me over the edge and I started the conversion. Although having mechanical ability, having been raised in Austria, I did not grow up to be a “car guy”, so this is very new and exciting to me and my questions might look stupid. After I removed the seats, I found what seems to be an occupant sensor. First removed it, but then somebody told me to better leave it since it could be a closed loop system. Any opinions and help will be very much appreciated.

Thanks for all your help. My 2021 seems to have a softer rear axle than my old one and the boat pulls the back down. getting rid of a 100 lbs of seats I never use will help.

I was wondering what you are using the rivinuts for in your application?

I believe that I utilized those for the 4 holes that are closest to the seats, but that was during the first iteration of my delete plate.

The delete is honestly a good amount of work. I would consider looking into helper springs for towing that boat of yours before committing to deleting seats.

It’s not an occupant sensor. It’s the rear key fob sensor, which enables a user to touch the rear hatch handle to lock/unlock the hatch or open/close the rear window.

Just stopping by to say thanks to OP for this thread. I successfully completed my 3rd Row delete and couldn’t be happier with the results!

Also thank you for posting a design update. I will utilize that as I figure out how to build a floor replacement.

Thanks for posting this. Appreciate the detail and photos. I'll be going down this rabbit hole soon. I'll start with this standard deck approach and see how that works out for now. Maybe raise it up into a platform for hidden storage later this fall. That would be ideal. More research needed for that.

The 3rd row seats are useless to me. I'll have to figure out where to store them. Better yet where to get rid of them. Is there really a market for these? :noidea:

In my continuation to convert this thing to standard 2row, I finally bit the bullet and purchased the rear interior panels from a wrecked standard 2row 4Runner. The 3row panels were swapped out and happy to report that 2row panels swap right in without issue. I have also decided to make an entirely new cargo platform and will utilize 3 L-tracks instead of the previous 2. I will also be utilizing 4 bolt locations instead of the previous 6 as it was overkill. Below pics are the current progress.

The kennel for the husky fits perfectly between two tracks!

I want to do something just like this (also have a ruffland!)

I currently have a basic leveling platform I did for myself, but it has nothing on it nor is it secured to the car itself.

• What are your 4 bolt locations? Are those going through the car frame? Any reason you didn't do something like turnbuckle to the 4 existing anchor points?
• What's your materials for this - mainly how did you go level with the L-track/recess it?
• Does the L-track catch on anything when you use the cargo area? I have no experience with the tracks. I imagine if something like a string or similar fell into the groove it could maybe snag otherwise they're completely out of the way?
• I assume that's a Large ruffland?
