3rd Toyota

Hi all,

I brought home a 2012 Trail last night. It's my third Toyota and second 4WD. I had a '84 xtra cab 4x4 that I loved, my first car, and currently drive a '03 Avalon which is a fantastic car.

I was torn between a new Limited or a Trail, and carmax made the decision for me. She's got <7K miles on her, no navigation - just as I wanted - and is Silver. I think she's a beauty. I didn't like silver on anything but the Trail edition, so it worked out great for me.

Carmax didn't know, and I am trying to determine, if it has the KDSS. I think it does - I briefly looked underneath this morning and think I see the hydraulic canisters under the rocker panels.

I know, you want pics. My PC isn't cooperating so I don't know if I'll be able to comply, but I should get some uploaded eventually.

Thanks for the welcome 4-ripcord. I've been looking over your NM thread and far I'm liking the beautiful pics of our great state. Guess I'm going to have to get out some now that I'm driving a runner!

I have confirmed the KDSS on my truck. I kinda suspected there would be an icon somewhere in the dash, but I had to look in the manual to find out where it is. But, now I have a little light to remind me of what a great off-road capable vehicle I bought.

I am researching the weird crawl-control feature. Many years ago I used to take my dad's 1968 Chevy Suburban out on the mesa around Albuquerque. I would shove it down into 1st gear, which we called a "granny gear", and let out the clutch without touching the accelerator. The truck would "crawl" with nothing but steering input from me.

That is what I expected from the Toyota! Boy, was I wrong! In crawl-control, on the lowest setting, the car shook and bucked and sounded like it was tearing itself apart! I actually called Car-max and set up an appointment thinking I had a defective unit. I guess some of you Trail owners know what I'm talking about. Strange to think this is normal.
