4.0 Supercharger from Pre-Runner for 4Runner

I think hope is lost for an SC at this point since this thread is over two years old now.


It's the same V6 that's in the Runner but coupled with a more fun 6 speed. This one ran a 15.7 up at 5800 asl. The only mods were intake and exhaust.

Ok, see this is what is BS. Why can they design and market a SC for a NEW engine but not for the older ones. Seems ass-backwards to me...

when i had called and talked to the guy he said that urd first started on 4runners. sorry i didnt ask if it was for a v8 i just told him that i have a v6 and he said that it would fit but also told me to call back in 2 weeks about one more week left his name was bryan. the phone number is 877 887 3872 i had also called trd a few weeks ago when i heard about the sc for the 4.0 v6 but it was only for the tacoma and fj but he told me to call back in the fall didnt sound to promising is their any other upgrades for the v6 besides intake and exhaust having a hard time finding anything. any help would be greatly appreciated

The kits they have were first fitted to tacomas and then adapted to the fj.... they have yet to fit it on a 4runner. When I get some time, I can get into the topic a little more with you :)

I'm jones-ing hard for a S/C for my ride...nothing like that sweet sound of the blower spinning up some extra HP...if anyone hears anything about the recently announced S/C for the 4.0 on Taco/FJ being retro'ed for the 'Runner PLEASE let us all know!!!!!
 
There will not be a 4L Supercharger built for the 4runner...as per our TRD Rep at SEMA. With the thinking that most customers who want more power will just opt for the V8.

I also happen to work for a Toyota dealership.
 
V6 plus supercharger specs out at 304hp and 334ft-lb vs. the 4.7L stock at 260/306...so, I still don't see the logic. Something funny must be up at Toyota...some other reason why they're being stubborn SOBs about it...seriously, it's just a fit kit...the hard part is done (i.e. the supercharger being made)...can't cost that much to develop and the HAVE to know that they'd sell more than a few of these...whatever...

Maybe it has clearance issues?

I mean you could easily retrofit the s/c, if it clears the hood. The only items you would have to address is a fuel/timing controller and tune.

Also, on the numbers you posted, the 304 for the 4.0L is the rwhp. On a stock 05+ vvti v8 rwhp is around 225.
 
Yeah, I really don't know squat about the calculations, I was just quoting what's on the Toyota website...and there might well be clearance issues, which would be unfortunate, but you'd think they'd come out and say that if it were that easy, instead of the too-vague "there are no plans at this time" pablum they stuff down your kisser...or, I 'spose you could grab yourself a sport hood and make that scoop functional!!!
 
I can see where it can be very frustrating not getting a definite answer.

When I was sema this year, I was able to make my way over to Magnuson who supplies the supercharger to TRD. The vibe I got from 2 reps I talked to was that TRD is taking a proactive approach by throughly developing and testing the kits before public release. I mean look at the 3.4L and 4.7L s/c kits.
 
I just saw a brand new s/c for the 4.0L tacoma and FJ on ebay. I checked out the TRD site and sure enough the new chargers are out. First one if its kind because it now have an TRUE intercooler in the plenum, not 2 injectors in the back acting as an intercooler.

This year at sema they had this unit in pieces to show off the air-water intercooler. Great idea :) cept the core is kinda small.
 
yeah I didn't pay much attention to how big a charger they matched up w/ the 4.0. So when they displayed the numbers (approx. 304 hp & 334 lb/ft of torque) I wansn't too impressed. Doesn't the 4.0 come w/ 245 hp? Now, if the 304 hp was to the wheel, then they aren't too bad since the 245 is at the fly. but if both figures are "at the fly" then I don't think you are paying alot per hp!!!

On another note, my bud at toyota says they scion kit is blowing motors too. I don't know to what extent or the cause, but he is saying they are junk and TRD knows of this. I still think my v8 s/c is stout despite all the so-called 'problems' people are having (but I've adopted the "set-it-n-4get-it philosophy). Hopefully this one will be a different story by the looks of it its design is all about efficiency.
 
with headers, intake and exhaust a buddy of mine with an xrunner is putting down 304 hp at the wheels with 11:1 afrs.

Seems like TRD put alot more effort into this kit than the past ones.

That's encouraging, however, TRD needs to put a lot more effort into a 4Runner kit!!!!!!

a tech at urd called me the other day after i had been bugging them for sometime now he told me that the s/c they have will fit my 2004 v6 but i will need to have a custom intake made because they dont have one. Also told me they would take 250.00 off of the total price and the new shipments would be going out this month
