4 runner ever catch on fire?

Today i was at the Nissan dealer looking for new car for my mom. well the dealer asked if i had ever had any problems with it just catch on fire. He said they gave had problems just catching on fire? any one hear of this?

Last I looked people's 4Runner new and older are not ablaze. I have yet to see on this forum "My 4Runner burst into flames last night!"

HAHA, a Nissan dealership?!?!?! Haters!!! I've never heard of any Runner catch fire (or any Toyota for that matter), unless someone took a gallon of fuel and a zippo to it. "F" Nissan, Go Toyota!!! Nissan knows Toyota is better then them as well, that's why they have to talk POOP and try to scare people away from going Toyota.

I've had a Pathfinder and an Altima. Nissan can not hold a candle to Toyota and it seems like this salesman is getting desperate.

Back when I was looking at buying my fj and their were none in stock I test drove an xterra. He talked so much trash about the fj saying how it has so many blind spots and how it has tank like qualities. **** that's why I bought one cause it's tank like qualities lol

Ask him about the issue with weak rings on the VQ engines. The v6's have 2 types of engines... ones that have had a shortblock and ones that will need one. The rings are crap and they start seeping and burning oil.
I was told that by a Nissan master tech that works in a shop with my brother. I was debating between keeping or selling my old V6 Altima with the issues it was having and he said if I was smart I'd sell it. I had issues with the oil passages to the timing chain not letting in enough oil. The chain ate the guides and started whining as well as the transmission slipping after long drives on the highway (I think it was a weak pump)... not to mention electrical gremlins and issues with the interior leather un-gluing itself from the heat in the front window...

I even looked at a Pathfinder when I bought my 4runner. The build quality just wasn't the same. The pathfinder cutting corners like not having rear vents for AC/heat was a big thing for me... I hate riding in a car this big without airflow.

After Renault took Nissan over, the reliability has really dipped. I do like Nissan's designs though, seems like they are taking a big risk in the design department. Sometimes those designs come out really ugly or really cool and I appreciate an auto manufacturer for trying. Toyota, in my opinion is a bit conservative and, dare I say it, a bit boring. But with the new Toyota GT-86, Scion FRS, or Subaru BRZ, its a step in the right direction.

I don't think anyone would argue that they were the Bland but reliable cars for the last 10 years. They really needed some help in the "exciting to drive" department since they killed off the MR2, Supra, and Celica... It at least looks like they're taking strides in the right direction
