4 Runner theft update(Long)

As many know, my 4 Runner was stolen in Aurora, Co. on Nov.25. It was recovered about a week later in Englewood with 15,000 worth of damage. At the time of the recovery it contained a bunch of stuff that indicated various other thefts including other auto thefts.

On Dec. 10 I was notified that an item of my property that was in the 4 Runner at the time of theft had been recovered by Aurora Police in the possession of a convicted felon that was out on bond for various other felonies and was in possession of a 9mm and an AR15.

Fast forward to Dec 15. I was notified that more of my property had been recovered in the possession of 3 felons. This recovery was by the Douglas County SO and happened on Nov. 27, 2 days after my vehicle was taken.

The 3 that had possession of my stuff were in an Infiniti that had been stolen on Nov. 18th which leads me to believe that they were not the ones that actually took my car, but were connected with the people that did. Seems like there is a whole gang of people that are proficient at stealing cars working in the Denver area.

During the encounter with Douglas County deputies, the suspects fired at officers and were also throwing property out of the vehicle during a high speed chase. Deputies finally rammed the vehicle and stopped it at which time a gunfight ensued and 1 suspect was killed, one wounded and one arrested.

The suspect that was killed was out on bond for several other felonies including Aggravated Auto Theft.

Maybe there is at least a little justice in the world.

That's a wild ride right there. Glad that they found it and you are getting back some of your property, but I am not sure that I would want the 4Runner back myself after that adventure lol.

I remember the news and after seeing the photos of the people involved and their swastika tats on their necks thinking that they were worthless human garbage. Hoping that there's not more of that sick ideology and behavior around town.

No information on anything to speak of. Aurora PD is not very cooperative or interested in the case, and Douglas County, while very helpful and professional, are keeping pretty tight lipped due to the nature of the investigation.

As many cars as this band is stealing, I have to guess they have some methods for getting in the cars and getting them going. It appears that everyone of them have a record that includes auto theft.

I would think that the Infiniti they were driving when caught would not be easy to steal, but they had it. When my 4 Runner was recovered there was evidence in it to indicate a couple of other car thefts. 2 garage door openers, handicap placard, a manual for a 2010 Honda Accord and other items.

When mine was recovered there was no indication of a break-in, there were no keys and the ignition had not been ripped out.

I have the car at the dealer where I bought it to be repaired. They guaranteed me that it would be repaired to like new condition. Don't know why this wouldn't be possible. Restorers of classic cars do it all the time with cars in much worse shape than mine.

I had to rent a U-Haul car hauler to get it from Denver to Durango. Thankfully my insurance company is being very good. So far they have paid for my rental car home from Denver, the rental on the U-Haul trailer, the towing and storage after the recovery, and the replacement cost of all the property that was taken out of the vehicle, less deductible of course.

If I can't live with it after the repair, I guess I will figure out a way to replace it. On a fixed retirement income that is not going to be an easy task.

Good luck with the repairs. Everything should end up being ok as long as nothing major was bent. Be prepared for a few return trips to fix nagging issues that pop up after a little mileage has been put on it.

A guy I used to work with had his car stolen from his driveway. Funny thing about that case, when they caught the thieves and recovered the car, the thieves told police my co-worker paid them to steal the car so he could get the insurance money! Fortunately the police were quick to see that was a lie after talking to him.

Glad you got your 4R back! Hope the shop does good work and you have no major long term issues.

since your good with your insurance company response to this loss , what is the insurance company ? most auto insurance companies will not pay for new parts on body damage ...force repair shops to use scrap yard or aftermarket ..

Is there a story as to how/why/when they took it with weapons in side? Car jacked on the way to the range? Or unsecured firearms left unattended?
