4 Runner Trail edition sealed electronics like FJ?

Anyone familiar with the sealed electronics boxes and connections under the FJ cruiser body that allows it to forde deeper water? Does the Trail Edition have this feature? Thx.

Electronics are pretty much the same, as is all of the Prado 150 platform between the FJC and 4runner. It's a good idea to add a breather to the rear diff and locker if fording water.

You never explained what differences you were citing (or where you heard this for that matter) in your last thread... http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/202592-sealed-electronics-boxes-under-body.html (I do apologize if it came across as condescending or dismissive, I was just genuinely confused by your question.)

There aren't any special connectors or "electronic boxes" that are different between the 4Runner, Tacoma, and FJ Cruiser that allow the FJ Cruiser to ford deeper water. All the electronics are equally sealed with weather resistant o-rings/grommets on the connectors and so on. As far as I am aware of there are no special seals, grommets, or o-rings that the FJ has that any other J120/J150 platform does not have.

Are you asking why does the FJ have a deeper published fording depth than the 4Runner? Because that's probably a more complicated discussion that has been touched on a couple times in the forum.

IF you're looking to modify your 5th gen for deeper water, breather extensions go a long way towards that; as does avoiding deep water when you can (mainly because of water intrusion into the bearings, shaft seals, ect. that's been covered in other threads.)

No problem, you know I couldnt find my first post about this, thought it somehow didnt get posted. But yes, if you recall the FJ cruiser promotional video that Toyota put out way back when showed an animated FJ going through deep water (up to the bumper deep anyway) with bubbles coming out of the exhaust pipe underwater, in that video Toyota stated sealed electronics components underbody to enable deep water traversing. Wanted to know if the same water resistant features were on the 4runner.

Now if the FJ has a published fording depth deeper than 4runner, I am interested to know what it is that gives the FJ that advantage. I couldnt find anything published about water fording for my trail edition. The FJ is great for all those features IMO just hoping they are on my TE as well.

Sure, it can. But you can also get off your line by one foot, fall into the unseen hole made by the brodozer last week and ruin your vehicle. I never go seeking out deep water to drive in like this guy did. The risk vs. reward is not worth it.
 
some of the crap that guy did in his truck is one of the reason why some trails have been closed down in my area. if you look at some of his videos on youtube he had mud get in the thing and in the end toyota wanted no part of the truck when he went to get a tacoma
 
Good lord, was that the transmission that guy was just grinding the hell out of in that video? I mean, jeez that sounded bad...

I thought that might have been his crawl control working overtime!

Mine in my FJ made noise, but not that much.
 
I would guess it was just his brakes from all the mud and grime..... Mine make a similar noise just after being under water. Talk about abusing your truck for not good reason. I'm not even sure if that FJ had ATRAC let alone crawl control... He looked very much like he had an open front diff trying to climb that hill.

I try to avoid mud holes that I don't need to go through.

Was thinking the same thing. I think my truck would have walked up that hill with no issue at all, but then again video can make things look deceivingly simple.
 
I go through mud and water if there is no possible way around it and I need to get to the other side. Easiest way to F up a truck.
