First, @OP I mean absolutely no disrespect ok? Now, at Greg_Canada: Are you serious??? Can people not read anymore? Does anyone not want to accept any personal responsibility for their actions? Get a tech to teach you...how bout learn a little on your own first by reading and asking questions at places like this? If you are not comfortable with this type of vehicle buy a CUV or a Subaru. Those are great vehicles and require very little knowledge to operate effectively. Some things in life actually require a little work on the consumer's part.

Yes, everyone should read their manual, but the dealers ought to take the time to walk through the vehicles with a new owner. My 2010 LE came with a little index-card sized paper with instructions for using H4F, H4L, and L4L. That card was (and is) in the little slot on the driver's sun shade.

I don't know if all years have that little slot or not, but I would suggest printing out a little summary & instructions and sticking it in there, especially if you only use your 4x4 a few times a year... it is much easier to read than the manual.

Before I took delivery of my 2012 TE, I got a very detailed lesson from a well-versed salesman on how to use the Multi-Terrain, A-Trac, Diff Lock, etc. That, plus a thorough review of the Owner's Manual has given me a pretty good understanding of how and when to use these features.

I agree with both Greg and 1Engineer.

I think that if a customer asks the salesman about a function, i.e. "I am interested in purchasing this vehicle, but I am unsure how the 4WD system is meant to operate could you please demonstrate it?" That salesman should know how to work that system and show it to the customer, or be able to have a technician (preferably give us some labor time to : ) to show the customer.

I also believe that if you take ownership of a vehicle you better damn well read up on it, if you don't have an owner's manual, that's okay it happens. But, get one so you can learn about the vehicle, don't use it as a general blanket excuse on never learning how to operate your vehicle safely and effectively.

I agree with the above comment.

When in the process of buying anything my steps are:
1) initial research and get a short list.
2) go shopping and ask salesman question (depending on product)
3) read the manual to understand how the manufacturer wants me to use the product and learn the options.

With that said, not everyone will take the time to do this. Some just go out and buy and there is nothing wrong with this since most times quick buys and the ones you never regret.

It all depends on your level of interest. In the end, their the ones breaking their things and even if they do blame others they are SOL.
