4 Wheel Parts: No Installs Of Toytec Spacers On T4R's w/ KDSS??????

I'm SO friggin aggrivated.

I bought the Toytec 2.5" front, 1.5" rear spacer/level kit to get installed with new 275/70/17's.

Dropped off my 2013 Trail at 4 Wheel Parts earlier today, who juuuuust called me back to say they will not install the Toytec kit on a T4R with KDSS.

Claims its enormously problematic and they simply wont do it....period.

I told the guy at 4 Wheel Parts that DOZENS of people have had that kit installed on KDSS equiped 4R's with zero complications, and you're telling me that it can't be properly done?!?

Regardless, now I have the Toytec kit, a set of 275/70/17's and nothing getting installed. I don't have the tools nor the know-how to do anything like this myself and I'm friggin' LIVID about this.

Where is this guy getting this sort of feedback from? Is there any validitiy to it, or is 4 Wheel Parts just FOS?

I don't see why they wouldn't... other than they may have under quoted the job and that's the excuse they're giving you.

I wouldn't do spacers though...

Maybe the shop is just not comfortable with working on KDSS? Spacers should be fine though...a rear spacer is pretty much no different than a taller spring, and a front spacer is kind of different but still close enough...and well you've seen plenty of lifted 4runners w/ KDSS around here without problems right? :)

Dude, it's better than the other type of call coming in. You know the one about how the f'd up your truck b/c they didn't know it had KDSS?

If you're gonna pay 4 Wheel Parts service prices, you might as well take it to the dealer. The CO dealers install spacer kits, so it's worth a check in your area.

Dealers here will not install these sorts of things. Already asked about that.

I'd be fine with a call that stated I had the wrong kit, or there's no way to install something I bought that just wont work. My bad....I'll eat it.

Not the case here, it will fit, dozens on here have installed the same exact kit, Toytec confirmed it works fine with KDSS. These guys just don't sell Toytec products and I think that has something to do with it...they're authorized on their own stuff, not on brands they don't carry.

Which is also ok...had they told me that a WEEK ago when I detailed, clearly what I wanted done and what I was going to buy.

There aren't a whole lot of 4X4 shops around South Florida, but looks like I'll have to find one.

I did a Daystar kit on my Trail w/ KDSS and it was a pain to get the shock back in once I took it out. I had to jack up the KDSS cylinder to get the opposite wheel to drop far enough. This was after a lot of trial and error, most of which came at the expense of my knuckles. Maybe they have done a couple and don't think its worth the trouble. Still if you spoke to them before you purchased and they are raising the concern now...not cool on their part. I'm hope you will be able to find a shop that will do it. Good luck

Did they try to sell you on the kits they sell instead? If so, then that's probably it. Otherwise maybe they did have a bad experience once and don't want to risk it again. It's pretty unusual for a business to turn down money for no reason.

Toytec is pretty good about suggesting shops around the area they ship to. I'm sure you've asked them, but if not, it would be worth it.

Installing lifts on KDSS equipped trucks is by far harder then SR5's and LE's and can run into a lot more problems. Mostly problems with occur VSC being over sensitive or with a Christmas tree of dash warning lights because of the electronic sensors needing recalibrated (aka zero point calibration)as the sensors seem to be more touchy in the KDSS TE's.Very very few LE's or SR5's need recalibrated or have VSC problems after a lift on this board over the last 3 1/2 years in comparison.

Also as stated It can be a bee-atch to get the front sway bar reattached and if someone unknowingly opens one of the valves on the KDSS to try to bleed off some of the 450psi pressure you'll run into a whole other world of problems(big money) with a trip to the dealer as that takes a host of special tools and fittings.

I've lifted one KDSS TE and only ran into trouble re-installing the front sway bar and had to use 2 jacks and a long 1/4 punch to get it to line back up but no electronics problems. To be honest,I was sweating it as it took some major force to get it to line back up and was practically lifting the front of her truck. Not that big of deal with the VSC and electronics, now that we know that ZPC isn't that big of a deal as long as it's followed to the T and has always fixed it as long as fluid wasn't let out.

They probably ran into problems before and I don't know if I blame them as I don't want to lift another one either because of the potential for headaches and because it was a PIA compared to the LE's and SR5's I've lifted.

Hmmmm....interesting. Thank you.

I would have thought with all the lifted/leveled KDSS equipped T4's on here, I'd have heard of a whole slew of complications, but I can't ever recall reading that. As a matter of fact, and maybe I just need to read more, KDSS lifted T4's seem pretty routine around here.

So tell me this, is there any way to level a KDSS TR with relative ease? From what your saying it seems to be the potential headache 4 Wheel Parts described x10.

Heck, if you weren't too far away I'd tell ya to swing by and I'd help you out with it. I put on my Daystar kit by myself with KDSS and no problems what so ever.

I didn't trust any of the offroad shops around me, especially 4wheelparts who didn't have a clue what KDSS was. I'd look for another shop though.

i mean.. i did mine in my garage... yes the kdss was a pain but if you're able to predict outcomes by using alternative methods(hole punch like other guy said and jacking up the swaybar to get it in place to bolt back up the other side) its doable.. in fact i might go back in there and do it all over again up front to go from a 2.5" to a 3" spacer up front (no i will NOT install yours on your kdss equipped truck.. yes things CAN go wrong and i don't want to be responsible for it on YOUR truck)

shame on them though for being scared to do it.. they lost a lot of EGO points lol

I appreciate the offer all the same.

Did you read Harper's post on the bottom of page 1? Seems pretty daunting based on his assessment, and even in the brief time I've been here, its obvious he knows what he's doing.

No issues with your install at all?

why would you trust 4 wheel parts with your rig ?

A recommendation from a member here, and South East FL isn't exactly brimming with 4X4 shops. Plus, as far as 4X4 "stuff", a front and rear spacer/level kit would appear to be one of the easier things for a shop to do.
