$ 43,300.00 drive away price is the best I can do for an sr5 with upgrade package. No factory rebates on TR4's WTF ??????? Anyway the MSRP is 41.5 , say they will wave the 5% sales tax and throw in a car starter.It comes to 43.3 with all the other fees like delivery , tire tax :barf:etc..... Whats your thoughts ? Am I getting hosed ? Maybe I shoud start a pole for this one.

car prices in canada are way more than prices in the US.

That's pretty normal for Canada. They just aren't moving much on the pricing.

When I finally decided to get my 4runner, I walked into the dealer and told them either $4000 off the MSRP and we'll have a deal or I'm walking out. Eventually we shook hands at 3k off MSRP with toyota mats and engine heater ( I know its useless but they threw it in anyways).

You gotta be tough dealing with car salesman..

got my Limited with Navi and 3rd row for 39,500. But that was in NY/NJ area. i guess it depends on location.

There is a vast gulf of difference in buying from US dealers as opposed to Canadian. In the US, inventories are higher, demand varies from state to state, and US dealers have always been much better at negotiating as they know buyers will simply go elsewhere if they don't get what they perceive is a good deal.

In Canada, there are much fewer dealers and right now demand is high on the Gen 5 4Runner, so they don't need to be flexible on price. 4Runner sales in Canada are up 361 per cent over may last year, with 277 sold in the month - though the increase is deceiving because the new one wasn't out last May and the 2009 was at the end of its run back then. Still, they're selling well, and not many dealers even stock them.

All that said, you could buy a 4Runner from the US once Transport Canada gives it clearance based on Toyota's OK (don't think that's happened yet) and import it. Or you could phone different dealers across the country asking for the best price, then go there and drive it home. Some of the dealers in more remote locales will be hungrier for the business.

As for the price, it looks pretty close to MSRP. You can probably do better.

Wow. I got my SR5 with the premium package (leather, etc) for $33,600 + 7% state sales tax.

My dealer only tacked on $150 in fees, and the sales tax thing is a little sketchy. They are basically just taking about $2500 off the price of the vehicle. Sticker of 41,500 is awfully high for an SR5...

I would suggest you check out the states. If your provincehas hst you might not need to pay pst in a particular state. Toyota Canada does not allow price negotations in canada. That might have changed, but it's very limited. The federal consumer affairs even went after Toyota.

Man I don't know where you get that from but it's totally NOT true. Yes, the sales people would definitely tell you that but just ignore them.

Getting a new vehicle south of the border is just not worth the effort.
Firstly most dealers in US do not sell new vehicles to canadians.
Secondly you still have to pay GST and PST at the border, and in this case, tariff too since 4runner is made in Japan.

There was a talk about this on the board previously. In BC prices WERE fixed, no haggle. MAYBE this has changed. *search user northof49. He is/was bc cdn dealer. He can confirm this if this still true. I had lengthy talks with him concerning Toyota canada pricing strategy in BC.*

Yes I forgot to mention *you have to find a dealer willing to deal with you if you buy new. However if you are buying used they are more than welcome to sell to you. I almost bought my IS from the states, but the CDN pricing due to the recession made the price gap neglible. I had a us dealer lined up.
Btw lexus pricing is negotiable, while Toyota is not in BC. I think this is due to lack of demand. Again this might have changed since i've been in the market. Maybe someone else can chime in?

As I said before, it looks like things have change over the the past 3 years since I bought my runner. Do you care to share the name of the dealer? I actually have family looking to upgrade their FJ Soon. Like you said every penny helps.

Try to catch the best deal by getting quotes on-line through this site Auto dealers Canada car dealers

This way I got an offer (through some additional negotiations) with a price tag being $3270 less than MSRP.

It seems to be that $3000 off MSRP isn't that impossible, but very hard to get. Most dealers I dealt with, did not want to move on the price at all. I also waited 4 month to get a truck on my driveway.

4Runner8 , no they do not, the drive trains are the same here as in USA for each model. The one exception here in Canada is we do not have the 4 only the 6 cyc.


Pattycakes you may want to try a car broker here in Canada. I can recommend one if you like, just email me. I purchased my limited out of Texas with nav. and the dollar at par. You will have GST and Duty at the border plus about 500$ in fees and inspections. All in I figure I saved about 6500 to 7000 over prices here in Calgary.
