4r went crazy on the wife this morning? help

so dealer said they will not adjust or do anything unless we replicate problem. which said dealer is in city we are 3hrs away in mountains so, not happenin. no one in my town has the equipment to zero the 4r. one shop did tell me that snap on would lend it to them for a short period next week to do it. Im gonna try to do myself and see how it goes. 1engineer, wife is 3hrs away or else i would do more. im trying here, thanks

If you pay them they will do it. That said, you can do it yourself no problem. Just follow the links and listen to the guys.

Another option, for those even remotely technically savy, is to buy a cable from eBay which comes with a copy of techstream. This will give you a real nice GUI to perform the calibration, customize to your hearts content, and all kinds of other cool stuff.

This isn't a Techstream calibration, it's a jumper wire in the ODBII connector calibration. The instruction linked to and posted here are directly from the Toyota repair manual

Not sure but I think this happened to me the other day after five months of ownership. I was going around a curve and it sounded and felt almost like I was crunching on some heavy gravel. It started to act like a skid. I let off the gas and turned in the skid direction and it corrected itself immediately. The thing is tho, I've hit much worse curves and hills and it always held fast, no issues. Curious why something happens now. I have a three inch lift, running 285 duratracs. The dealer installed the lift and tires and I picked it up lifted so I have no base line for stock driving. In another month it's due for the first service. Guess I'llwait and see for now. I tried to get it to do it again and it won't as yet. Maybe it's a fluke. Can this traction control just activate occasionally and be considered "normal"? It seems most of the thread posters are having numerous occurrences.

I can't really say if it's normal or not because the vehicle monitors several sensor inputs to identify a stability loss condition, so you just might've triggered the exact combination of inputs on that one turn where you felt the TCS/VSC kick in...certainly could not hurt to have the zero point calibration reset since you've modded the suspension quite a bit.

Thanks Eddie, I tried my hardest to get it to occur today while I was out and nothing. That's why I was wondering if it maybe just kicks in rarely because as you said certain conditions are met. But along that train of thought it happens to those who have not had a lift also or so I've read. In any case I like my dealer and will run it by them. It should be no charge since they did the lift. Occasionally I still long for the good old days when vehicles were so much simpler.
