I tried and tried and the clock still wouldn't come on. I ran out of ideas to fix it.
Is there anyone out there that can help me with this problem? Is really irradiates me, I want my clock to work.

What can i do to fix it? or should I go to ebay and find one?

Thanks

go to a junkyard that has a 4runner on the lot and ask for the clock, then before you buy it, plug it in to help troubleshoot if it's the unit or maybe the harness or something more in depth. If all else fails, just buy a digital clock and glue it to the dashboard! :)

It's kind of hard to troubleshoot a problem when the only details that are provided is that it does not work.

But anyway, first thing to check would be if the harness is plugged into the clock. If not, that's probably your "problem." If that doesn't work....then your guess is as good as mine.

Like, before I have to hit the clock and it will come back. Now, I tried it and it doesn't come back at all.

I will give it a shot tomorrow. Don't have my 4runner with me tonight. I will post an update after i finish with the oil change.

No dice, I checked the harness connected to the clock and it still doesn't show.
What else could it be? Do I need to replace the clock itself or?

Thanks

take the clock apart (2 little phillip screws). make sure the springs for the 4 contacts are seated correctly.

i got the exact same problem... it worked for a while then it flickers on and off when you hit a bump rite?

i thought it would be some loose connection in the back on the clock but it wasnt... i even took the clock apart... still did the same problem, after a month or 2 it WILL die, cant even flick it to make it turn on... its 100% dead.... basically just us your cell phone for a clock thats what i do now

who doesnt carry a cellphone these days ^_^ hope this helps, if you figure out a solution PLZ inform me thank you

Look like we are both in the same boat. I took the clock out and extended the springs out and still no dice. I don't know what's with these clocks. It really irradiates me. I gave dealer a call and they quoted me like $200 dollars for a new clock.

Last winter is when it came back and later on it comes back then it goes out. I was thinking about buying a used clock and change it out with it. If it works, that would be great.

I checked the harness and is not loose. I don't know what caused this problem.

Some questions
1. Is this a common problem in the 3rd gen 4runners?
2. Is there any other way to fix it?

Thanks

200 bucks for that!!!! WTF!!!!

i believe the clock just sucks for my opinion... mine cut out just this past winter

just use your cell phone, you get used to it after a while anyways

hmm.... i wonder if one friend i know can help me get another one, he knows a few people that work for toyota and can maybe get me one cheap ^_^

I'm thinking about going to the junkyard and pull one out that's if they even have a 4runner on the lot lol.

My second route would be ebay. Is so much cheaper that way.

When it goes out, I usually pound it a little and it comes back.

so since this thread bought up the point about 4runner clocks being broken... i decided to try to make the thing turn on

call me crazy but it has been off dead for 3 months ATLEAST!!! today i was just driving, i ran into a red light and decided to smack the clock one last time to see if it would work... AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW!!!! IT WORKS!!!!! i was expecting it to turn rite off like it regularly would when i hit a bump but surprisingly it has stayed on all day!!!!

decided to add in my 2 cents ^_^ hopefully the light stays on for now on...

I wish mine could come back to life.
I probably am going to buy one off of ebay within this week. Let's pray that is just the clock that doesn't work.

How's your doing so far?

i have the clock problem and its cousin, the fuel gauge light deciding when and iuf it wants to come on.
my clock comes on after a tap on the dash. if the clock is the only thing that happens to this car, then its an ok ride in my opinion.
and my check engine light from my sensor lieks to come on via a sensor.

First of all....my sympathy. I have the same problem with my 98 4 Runner. It would be intermittent. To get it to come back on I would tap it. Well, I tapped it too hard and it fell back into the back of the dash somewhere. I have tried to get it out but it appears to be impossible. You can't get what you can't see.
So I bought a simple LCD clocl and glued it in where the original one was....works fine except it's not lit so you can't see it at night. You have to take the whole dash apart to replace it. The one I bought cost 7.98 at the hardware store. This appears to be a common problem with 4 Runners....bad digital clocks...Good luck.

the dash is surprisingly easy to take off, you just start at the e brake or shifter and go to the clock. just pops on and off, ive taken mine of a couple times for the clock and radio.

clock cut out again... with a companion this time, my CD light (stock) decided to join the clock light except the CD light is officially not coming back on. to add further problems, mom or dad decided to not be patient and wait for the garage door to open all the way and zoomed rite into the garage breaking my radio antenna with not caring to fix it... dont have any money to spare, saving up for a motorcycle ZZR600 ^_^ WOOT WOOT!!!
