4runner clock problem

Ouch, that sucked.
Yeah, im still having no luck with the clock.
Im thinking about going to ebay and bid one off.

Is there any other way i can fix this?

i tried everything, nothing works. i took off the dash and played around with the wires no luck and even took the entire clock apart seeing if there was any weird was going on and even shaking and tapping it out of the dash to see what was up with it, nothing can be done, just one of those flaws the 4runner has i guess
 
I tried to, I took the clock out and tried to examine what the problem is with it. I took it apart too and still no luck. Checked the harness too and stuff but no luck.
I should have asked the dealer what causes the problem.
 
the clocks in 4runners suck. mine hasn't worked for awhile, but prior to going out completely, i could tap or flip it and it would come on only to fade out again until it never came back on. i think they are notorious for having this problem. i bought one off of ebay last month for like $40 bucks and installed it and it is working great. it was very easy to install in my 97. if you need help, pm me.
 
I have the problem with the little icon that tells you when you are low on fuel. It comes on whenever it feels like it....just another annoyance like the digital clock problem.

Did you just replace the clock and it came back to life? or is there something else?
If is just replacing the clock, im so going to buy that clock and switch it out.

Hey CaleWVU, come again with taking that console apart. Give me some detail. I'd like another shot at my faulty digital clock which now is entombed behind the dash somewhere.

yes-i purchased the new(used out of a 99) clock from ebay and unplugged my old one. plugged in the new one and it worked like new. its easy.

here is the most descriptive link i found for taking off the cener bezel to get to clock, radio, etc. it will vary a little for 99's and up i believe:

once you do it, you can have it all off again in like 5 minutes.

This must be a common problem with 4Runner clocks, cuz mine doesnt work proberly either...and its so f'in annoying!!!!

$200 is stupid, but $300 is worse! Thats what I got quoted at the dealer here in Denver. I also called around some local junk yards and no dice...some other SOB's with a non working 4Runner clock beat me to it.

Im gonna take mine apart and see if messin with the contact points will help, cuz mine goes in and out as far as it working.

Yup, thats what the dealer quote me for a new clock. I was like, $300 for a clock? I might as well go to the junk yard and give it a shot. If i can find one great, but if i can't ebay ftw lol.

Thank you Highmilesrunner.....don't know if I've got the guts to start tearing into it. I bought an LCD for $7.98 and cemented it in place....works and looks OK.

mine was just the clock. it was an easy fix-take off dash, unplug old one and plug in new one. works great
 
I guess even the junk yard didn't have any 3rd gen 4runners around, the closest thing they had was the 1st gen 4runner.

I guess ebay here i come.
 
thanks for picking me up highmiles, i have been too busy to respond.
that article is very detailed, but mine was a little different. You dont need the screwdriver to pry off the dash panels bc the first things youll unclip expose screws. use that article to get the plastic panels off and then everything else is self explainanatory if you have even just a little common sense. i was intimidated by removing panels to stick in my aftermarket cd player, but have had it off now several times bc its so easy and screwing with the clock.

i have come to the conclusion that if i have a ride with 83k and the biggest problem i have is a clock...i am "soooo haapppppy." (craig from last week's southpark episode, i sure hope somebody else saw it)

and for the guy whose mom broke his antenna, i went to advance auto and picked up a SS looking one for 6 bucks but i really like the look of it better bc there are no greasy rings where the oe one collapses down.

I too have a 99 4Runner and my clock is trippin. I took it to the dealership and they informed me that the clock is going bad, and that it would be $313.43 to replace (HA!!!!!!) So, for now, temporarily bang the hell out of it when it goes out. But, when I took it to the dealership, they "fixed" it and it hasn't gone out since then. But I'm sure it will cuz they want my damn money! LOL!!!!
