4runner clock problem

Well Candy,

thats just way too much for a clock, but today I went to used Toyota parts store and brought a used clock for $37 dollars. I came out and changed it out and it works like the day it came off the lot.

Try searching on the web or cragslist for it.

Good luck.

Clock on fritz

I too have a 99 4Runner that the clock seems to have died. It worked sporadically for a while (usually it worked better in cold weather). Now it has just stopped working all together.

How hard is it to get the dash off and the clock out? Not sure where to even start with that.

I will review link below, but if someone else has insight, please share. Thx.

It's not hard to get the dash off. I've done it 3-5 times in the past two days.

You have to remove the center console piece first, then the piece around the shifter. After that you have to take the knobs off the AC and Fan. Once that is done you can just pop the cover off. Once you do that you will see two screws. Unscrew those and then pop the whole center dash piece off. You will see the connectors to the defroster, clock, emergency lights when you take off the center dash piece.

I traded for a 99 4runner and the clock wasn't working when i got it. After a little head scratching i noticed that there were two identical female plugs in the area of the clock with only one male plug on the harness. The one that the harness was plugged into was directly behind the rear window switch. The other plug in is directly behind the clock. I moved the male plug to the one behind the clock and now it works. I checked the rear window and it works as well, i don't understand but o well it fixed it. I know this probably won't fix yours if it works when you hit the dash but it wouldn't hurt to try. hope this helps.

the clock is not dead. the old springs in the clock are not providing the proper contacts to make it work. There's a guy that fixes these clock issues regularly for $40. Much cheaper than paying $200+ for a new one from the dealer.
