4Runner died....

it may be possible that whoever owned it before u did a maplight mod (maybe ran a wire directly from the dome light, that might be why they were dimmer) & it has developed a loose wire (with sunroof use??) or possibly u loosened one when installing the mirror, as far as most members know there was no 4th gen year that had the maps work with the doors unless a mod was done

There is no wire whatsoever running to those map lights, so I don't believe that it's possible that there was a mod done by the previous owner. Besides, when new, the car was a rental, and rental companies don't do mods. Then it was sold as a Toyota Certified used car and had 20K put on it in 9 months, and I see no evidence of any mods anywhere -- that owner didn't even rotate the frigging tires.

Everything on the vehicle looked completely OEM before I added the new powered rear view mirror.

webby, sorry, but i think its gonna be hard to get an answer on here about ur problem since like i said before, far as anyone knows, there are NO years of 4th gen. that have the maplights go on/ff with the doors form the factory. maybe you can find a shop that can help u, otherwise it seems u have 2 choices, if they still work correctly (brightly) when pushed, u can either leave them as is or if u need/want them to come on/off with the doors, do the mod yourself.
