4Runner Direct Plug Dash Cam?

I was off-roading the other weekend with a few buddies and one of them had a dash cam plugged directly into the rear-view mirror on his 2020 Tacoma via a small dongle. I've looked at the 4R mirror on my 2020 and it does not seem to have any port to plug into - has anyone seen something similar for 4Runners as opposed to running wires through the roof/side side panels?

I don't have any pictures of his set-up but I believe the below Amazon link is what he has for the dongle from the dash cam to the mirror.

Sadly it looks like your 2020 won't work with this...

But literally it's super simple to tuck wires up the A pillar and under the trim next to the windshield... Super easy and takes less than 30 mins including running the add a circuit wire tap.

I have a 2020 and was also interested in the same option For a dashcam. Dongar Technologies sells one that claims to be compatible with the 2020 4Runner based upon a post on their Facebook. If you go to dongartechnologies.com, it has an Amazon link for the 10 pin, type B, but it is not available. I emailed Dongar and they said they are still in production and didn’t provide a release date.

There are loads of options for dashcams. It seems the majority of folks hardwire their dash cams to their trucks by a few means, the most common (in my opinion) being the add a fuse to the fuse box next to the parking break in the driver side footwell. You can find loads of videos on installing an add a fuse, and then really just pick what camera you want. There are also plenty of videos showing you how to open up your A-Pillar. I went cheapish on my camera system since i really didn't know what i wanted or if it would be of much value.

Pro Tip, there are both always "On" and Ignition "On" circuits in the fuse box that are probably not used in your truck you could always use those if you are nervous about hurting another part of your electrical system, (ex. sun roof circuit in my 4runner, since i don't have a sun roof )

Toyota has an OEM dashcam that is integrated into the vehicle:

Does anyone here use the TOYOTA OEM cam? Would like to hear people's thoughts on it compared to some of the more common 3rd party options. Price I guess for TOYOTA is high?

No, the mirror is powered via ACC

One small suggestion from the peanut gallery. When you run the power cord down your Driver side A-Pillar, there is an existing wire harness, that is behind you side curtain airbag. “I” would zip tie your power cord to that existing harness behind the air bag so if the airbag deploys the dash cam wire doesn’t get tangled up with the airbag. You’re call, just some brain food to I gnaw on.

My dash cam - an HP brand one - has an internal battery for that. It does act as a motion sensor and records anytime there is motion. I'd guess most of them that do this have an internal battery for that function.

There should be 12V switched and also possibly an unswitched 12V you can pull right from your mirror harness. If you use a multimeter or can get a pinout for the plug, then just use a positap to power your camera. That is what I did in my Lexus, you can't get any cleaner or easier than that.

I tried through the headliner but kept getting my fishing tape stuck on the side airbags so luckily I had just enough to get down from the rear headliner and below the doors to my front camera.
