4Runner/Duratracs up to the task

Not a story about an expedition on some remote trail, rather it was an ordinary trip down the highway, going about 60 mph and hit a HUGE pothole. The entire truck jumped up, and as I crested the hill, I saw literally 60 cars stopped in the right lane with blown tires, axle damage and who knows what else. My 4runner kept humming along. Not sure if I should thank lady luck, the 4Runner or the LT Duratracs, but I was happy to not have any damage.

Honestly, you should double check the sidewalls of the tires for any bulging and get the alignment checked.

I've been in similar situations and it does feel good to just drive away from something like that.

Wow... I almost went there yesterday. Definitely gives the Duratrac's some props. Stock Size?

I thought I was home free once and there was a 3" gash on the inboard sidewall.

I'm planning to bring my truck in to get checked out, I want to make sure there was no latent damage caused that might come back to haunt me in the future. I'm not much of a mechanic -- other than the tires/rims, what should I ask the mechanic to look at? What else can get damaged when you hit a big pothole going 60 mph? It seems to ride fine now, although I have noticed a few more squeeks. The truck is only 4 months old, so that worries me a little.

Just curious. Are you on stock suspension or do you have a lift or other suspension mods. What size Duratracs are you running. Thanks for the info.

This is one of the reasons I went from my Volvo S60R with the low profile tires on 18" rims (stock) which the rim snakebit both sidewalls on a front tire when I hit a pothole. They do improve the cornering ability but very few people ever use those capabilities to any extent on the street. I am glad to get back on tires that have adequate sidewalls to absorb normal driving hazards here in pothole ridden Iowa.
